Question about Canon DR-2580C Path-Through Scanner

Canon DR2580 left side washed out top to bottom

Canon DR-2580CCustomer says this is two sided scanner. Left side of the image (about half from left to right, not just in the margin) is blurred/light/washed out from top to bottom. Back side of the scan has similar image defect. What could cause this problem? Thanks for any help

I havent used Canon 2580C and hence cant comment on Scan Panel. But you can download SU5000 or Captureperfect 2.0 from Canon website ( This is easy to use and probably offers more features as compared to ScanPanel. Canon 5010C is a higher model as compared to 2589C and Captureperfect may offer better user interface.

The (-4437) is not a familiar Canon error to me. It's probably generated by your scanning software as a generic message for a scanner not ready condition. If the light on the top of the scanner is blinking, the scanner needs service. If not, check the cable to the computer for solid connection or bends/breaks. You can also try running the Capture Perfect program that was bundled with the scanner to see if the problem still occurs and gives you a more specific error message.

Do the lines appear in the same location on all images? Please clean the glass with isopropyl alcohol.IF the lines are crisp and sharp at the edges on all levels of contrast, then it is module problem. If it varies depending upon the contrast chosen and is also with jaggered edges, it is dust stuck on the glass. Dont use solvents.

It is dust on the glass, clean it thoroughly. You will find it at the same location for all drawings and may get faded for lower brightness!

Canon scanner whiting out one side of page

Hi, The Camera (CCD) would appear to be faulty. I service scanners and I have come accross this problem on this model twice. It was not worth replaceing the camera due to the low value of the scanner. Cost of part plus labour would be too high.

Canon DR 6080 Error Code C01

The top cover is held in position by a small piece of plastic on both sides. Open the Left hand side cover and you will notice the catch with two screws. Unscrew them slightly push it down and tighten again. This should solve the problem.

Canon DR-2580C scanner only scanning half the page. What could be the problem?

Select Auto for page size. The scanning software displays scanned image in many options, including 'fit'. Choose 'fit' so that you see complete image.

The Canon DR 9080C is a 'contact' scanner. There is no optical lens, instead it uses a technology called "Contact Image Sensor' or CIS. The page to be scanned must be close to the glass for a proper image. This is achieved by a full-length rubber roller just above/below the scanning module. The roller is spring loaded and in case it gets stuck, there wont be enough pressure on the document to keep it close to the glass. ensure these rollers are moving smoothly and if required clean them. The rollers are on the opposite of the Scanning module.

Canon DR-2580C scanner - green light just blinks. software says door is open. it is not.

I have many years of experience with Canon scanners and I think I may be able to help you with your problem.

On that particular model of scanner there is a micro switch to verify the top half of the scanner is closed. On the top half of the scanner the part that flips up you should see a peice of plastic towards the front protruding downward I belive on the right hand side towards the front of the top half but on the side of it. If its not there then it has broken off, if you can find it you can glue it back on with super glue. If that peice is there then look straight down on the same side of the scanner that peice is on you will see a small opening and you may see a small peice of silver metal. That is where the micro switch sits and the plastic peice on the top activates that switch. If the switch doesnt get activated then the green light blinking problem will occur. To replace that switch or adjust it you will need to remove the covers from the scanner the back cover first with I belive has 5 screws in the back. There is a tab on the bottom of the scaner that needs to released so you can remove the side cover, you will see a square hole towards the front of the scanner on the bottom. Use a very small screw driver to push the tab in to release the cover. Take your time doing all this because you will need to reassemble the scanner once you make the repairs to the micro switch. Getting the following error. error in front shading motor. DR-5010C canon

I have many years repairing canon scanners so here if my suggestion for you.

You will need to open the scanner up by lifting up the top portion of the scanner like you were going to remove a jammed piece of paper in it. The large green button on the left side of the scanner (with the scanner powered on) hold down and count to 10 very slowly. You should see to white strips pop up out of the scanner. One on the top and one on the bottom. If they don't pop up that will tell you which motor is bad the bottom or the top one. If they do pop up look at them closely you will see specks of dirt on them causing them not to function correctly. Get a bottle of Fantastic or 409 your choice and a terry cloth wash cloth. Spray the wash cloth with either the fantastic or 409 until its very wet. Then gently rub across the white strips until all signs of dirt are removed then dry them off by rubbing them with the dry part of the wash cloth you are using. If its just dirt on the shader's your problem will be gone. If one of them do not pop up then you will need to contact your local canon dealer to have a replacement motor installed.

The scanner only scan one side fully

If the bottom is vertically split, then there could be some problem in the hardware (bottom scanning module) Check for loose contacts. If it is cut horizontally, it must be definitely loose contat problem.

Canon DR-9080c Ghosting Problem

Though I've never seen this on any scanner, I can imagine it being a reading glass out of place. This could cause a weaker reflected image overlaying the direct one. Look at the top & bottom glass strips in the transport area. They should look level & unbroken.

Scanned image on left is cropped by a good quarter of an inch.

To get the image on the right side, Select 11" wide and the length you want. Keep the paper guides at the far ends. Insert the paper at the extreme right side and the image will appear on the right side. The left side would appear dark and You may need software to clean. If you dont have Raster Editing software, best way is to stick your image onto a white paper and scan the whole paper. Ensure that the ends are trim. ( I am assuming it is faceup scanning)

Image problems

The lower scanner unit moves when doing the shading adjustment (scans the little white plate on the top and bottem scanners). Most common problem is a staple interfering with the lower scanner movement.
