Question about Refrigerators

2 Answers

We have a Maytag MSD2754ARA refrigerator and heard water leaking under it last night. We checked and it is coming from the line connected to the icemaker. The line inside is frozen solid. I have read that it could be the valve leaking, but how to we get the icemaker to cycle so we can check for leaks?

You'll need to first defrost/thaw the freezer and the water line in order to get water flowing again. This can take some time, so you might want to shut off the ice maker by lifting the ice maker bin arm, which will stop it from cycling/calling for more ice to be made.

You can try to thaw the line by using a household hair dryer, but unless you have only a small area of the water line frozen, it could take some time. That is why it is best to empty the fridge/freezer and keep the doors open and the unit off to allow for a complete defrosting of the unit. Have towels, sponges and buckets handy to get all the water.

It sounds like it could just be the frozen water line, but until you thaw it out, you can't really determine if that's all it is.

Yes The water inlet valve on the back of the unit where the water supply comes in can have a slow leak and will cause ice to buildup and block the fill tube. Disconnect the ice maker line from the valve and watch to see if it has a slow drip. It doesn’t take much to eventually block the fill tube. Try swapping the wires on the dual water inlet valve. Then try the water dispenser. The water should go to the ice maker. This will tell you weather or not the ice maker valve is working and if the line is clear.

Water leaking from the bottom of the refrigerator

You could have a clogged drain line or a cracked drain pan. I would start with the drain line.

Maytag mbf2258xeq leaks but it's not connected to a water line. Where's the water coming from?

water is coming from condensation from the compressor coil. usually this will evaporate fast enough to not puddle on the floor. check the plastic line running down the back of the fridge to see that it's not broken or pulled out. while you have the fridge out, clean the coil by blowing it out with compressed air and clean the pan under the compressor as best you can. Hope this helps

Your drain line is clogged. The water comes from defrost cycle, that happens every 8-12 hours. You need to defrost it and snake it.

Maytag MFI2569VEB1 french door refrigerator has started leaking water from underneath. Seems to be coming from the left (facing) side, near the front. I checked water connection in back and in the left...

I will look for your service manual and tell you that first it's most likely a blockage in the defrost condensate line. There are many reasons for this happening for example water leaking from a water supply line for the dispenser or ice maker, a in the defrost pan,
water leaking and draining through the refrigerator cabinet, but most are caused by a defrost drain line blockage.

Older maytag fridge side by side.

Buk, there's supposed to be a drain pan under your fridge to catch the water that comes from the drain tube. The water that's coming out is supposed to be there (only, it's supposed to be caught by the drain pan)... it's the water that's made when your fridge defrosts itself. If you plug the tube, the water will back up inside the fridge , puddle up in the bottom and eventually leak out through the door.

You should order a drain pan for it. Here's a link to one online. After you have it in place, you won't have to worry about it anymore. The water that collects there will simply evaporate back into the air.
