Can I repair or rebuild a locked up ac compressor pump or do I have to buy another ac compressor 2006 Impala 3.9 V-6?

My son bought the car a couple of weeks ago & said the ac worked fine. After I flushed out the cooling system & replaced the thermostat I ran the engine to burp the cooling system. After the engine was running for about 3 minutes I heard a weird noise under the passenger side front fender. When I looked to see what the problem was I saw that the ac compressor was locked up.The ac clutch & the pulley was locked up. When I did a trouble shooting check I found out there was no Freon in the system.hence the problem. I'm up to date on replacing & charging the ac system. Can I repair/rebuild the ac compressor or do I HAVE to buy another one? My son drove the car to work one time(about 30 miles round trip)and said the ac worked fine. Thanks for any help.

I don't know if my air condition services were cheating me but I had twice problem with the compressor and after two different checkups both time they told me I had to install a new compressor. and that repairing it was not a good idea.

Testimonial: "U can repair or rebuild an ac compressor. Which one would U pick. (1) buy a brand new one. $400 to $700 (2) Buy a refurbished one around $100 with a one year guarantee. (3) Just repair the problem. (4) Rebuild the ac compressor completely for around $300. If U have common sense U will know which one to pick. Hope this helps."

Well, the refurbished one for 100$ with a year warranty looks quite interesting if you have some good reference from those people douing that refurbishing job..
They never offered me a refurbished compressor when did those repair jubs but knowing abous some dishonest mechanics, maybe they installed a refurbisehed one

2006 dodge stratus 2.4.Ac compressor burnt/locked up but car still runs.local garage quoted me 1000.Any cheaper ideas? Does the heater and defrost also use the compressor?

Your defroster will use the A/C compressor, but not the heater. If the compressor is locked up and you do not want to spend the money for a new compressor, you might look at just getting the clutch changed. This will still let the belt free wheel and the car run and drive, but the A/C will still not work.

Can the ac compressor clutch on a 2006 dodge stratus be replaced without replacing the entire ac compressor?

i dont know of any domestic cars that dont have rebuildable/replaceable clutches on the compressor. best way to find out is to call a parts store and see if you can get the part.

My 2006 impala blows air, but it is not cold at all. What could be the problem?

I would recommend that you raise the hood, locate the air conditioner compressor, turn on the ac in the car, and see if the compressor kicks on. If it does not, then you will need to have the ac charged. If it does kick on, then you need to pay attention to how it cycles, meaning kicking on/off, if it is frequently, then you need to charge it as well.

My ac will not work in the winter we just bought a 06 impala LT and want to make sure everything works before the sixty day warranty is up

You will have to park it in a place that's above 40 degrees for a while, then you can hear the compressor engage when you put it in defrost mode or tuen on the a/c.

MY SON DROPPED MY REMOTE AND IT STOPED WORKING. i BOUGHT BATTERIES BUT IT STILL DOES NOT WORK

Buy a used remote on ebay, put new batteries in it, take it to a dealer and have them test the remote, if it is good have them teach your car to respond to it. it won't cost much and make your son pay for it.
