Question about Sony Dvcam DSR-PD150 DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

On my pd150 camcorder, the self-diagnosis display shows C:31:23. I have tried all suggestions in the owners manual, but nothing works.

I tried smacking it - on bottom and side opposite tape - no help. The code did change temporarily from C:31:23 to C:31:22 then back to C:31:23. I tried loading a brand-new dv tape and now it will not eject!

I appreciate your suggestions. I will ship the camcorder for repair but feel we did everything we could to fix it ourselves prior to shipping.

The 31 in this code relates to an electrical component issue often resolved by following the advice in the manual i.e remove battery from unit for 60 seconds and then power up again.

The 23 in the code relates to internal gearing - if it is worn or sticking it in turn activates the 31 fail safe - so you can see that in fact this error relates to two issues occuring in the camera - one electrical and one mechanical.

The Solution- To be Performed At Your Own Risk!

If following the user manual recommendations has failed to resolve the issue for you - error 23 can often be resolved by ............... smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand !!

Don't believe me? See http://www.camerahacker.com/Forums/DisplayComments.php?file=Video%20Camera/Sony/Sony_DCR-TRV18_-_Error_Code..html

This is a fairly common issue with these cameras and the smack is often enough to release the gear mechanism and resolve the problem. The only alternative is to return the camera for a service repair.

Hope this helps. Please remember to rate my answer. Many Thanks.

It appears the gear mechanism is the problem and this has further jammed the mechanism. As you see from the link many people have had success with it but its looking like the mechanism in your case is so far gone it will require service attention.

As regards your current tape stuck problem:

TRY THIS: Power off your camcorder and remove the battery. With the battery removed, move the power switch to ON. LEAVING THE POWER ON replace the battery. You may find the tape will eject.

I have a Sony PDX-10 and it's giving me two blinking yellow symbols (underlinded triangle and tape with line through it) when I fire it up loaded with a tape. Tried changing with tapes that work fine in...

Hello,
Looking at PDX 10 User Manual Page 232

Your description -

Under lined Triangle

Cassette Ejection needed
Slow Flashing: The Write protect tab exposed

Fast Flashing: Moisture Condensation
Cassette out of tape
Self diagnosis display function activated

Sounds like the diagnosis function maybe your best shot......
Check displayed error codes in viewfinder on Page 231 of the User Manual or let me know if you dont have copy of them.

Tape Symbol Flashing:

Tape near end
No cassette inserted
The write protect tab exposed.

I think this is basically telling you the loading mechanism has a problem, the viewfinder is displaying an error code indicating the nature of the fault..... IF error Code is : E61:........ or E62........ (dots indicate extra numbers) these MUST be referred to Sony Service Centre.

Hope this may help

Your camcorder has a self-diagnosis display
function.
This function displays the current condition of
your camcorder as a 5-digit code (a combination of
a letter and figures) on the screen. If a 5-digit code
is displayed, check the following code chart. The
last two digits (indicated by ss) will differ
depending on the state of your camcorder.

Look up the error code in you manual
