Thanks, but it's actually the oven ignighters. The one on the right is fairly easy. It's the one on the left that I'm having a problem with, since I think one of the wires has to connect to one of the spade tip connectors on what I think is the gas regulator (There's 4 spade tipped contacts on it)

The ignitor p/n is PB040001 and the range is a VGIC365-6BSS

  • eric690 Jul 14, 2009

Any luck yet? I haven't heard from anyone else, so I assume that you're still trying to help me out.

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Hi,

I already had the manual, but the wiring diagram didn't help. I was hopefully looking for a photo of how it's supposed to look, or detailed instructions on installing new igniters which include how to reconnect the wires.

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Vic,

Thank you for getting back to me. The model number is VGIC365-6BSS. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Vic,

Yes the range is a Viking, and the model number is VGIC365-6BSS. The ignitor says Viking on the box, p/n pb040001, but the actual part says Norton, p/n 501a.

    Thanks,

    Eric'

Hi, I can help you with this. I tried looking up the model# and I couldn't find it. The ignitor should be 2 wires. It doesn't matter which wire goes where. As you stated, one side whould go to the gas valve and the other should hook up to the power side.
If you would resend me your model #, I will try and get you a good picture to help.

Thanks
Vic

Eric, I am sorry I can not find anyone that carries your model #. Let me see if I can give you instruction tho. Id this a 2 wire ignitor? The gas valve is a double valve? Please let me know if there are any wires still hooked up on the gas valve. I am going to start searching more for someone that has info on your model.

Eric, Is there any chance that you might have a phone # for this company. Sometimes they put a phone # on the model # label.

That is the ignitor I thaout it was. It doesn't matter on where you put the wires. If you removed only the 2 wires from the gas valve that go to the bake side on the as valve, Just splice the new wires to the old connectors and plug the back in.

Does this help you at all?

One of the wires should plug into the gas valve and the other will connect to the wire coming from the power side. If you removed all 4 wires off of the gas valve, There should be 1 wire that has 2 connectors on it. One part of the wire will plug into the bake side of the valve and the other side of that wire will plug into the broil side of the valve. Not there should be a wire coming from the broil ignitor that will plug into the other broil connection. You should have one wire left and that will plug into the other bake side of the valve.

If the igniter is one of this kind:

Just connect the two wires in any way, the igniter will spark either way.

Unplug power when you do the connection

Try giving me igniter part number, and range model number from service tag, I will try to find wiring diagram.

One side of the ignitor connects to the thermostat, the other to the bake valve. If the valve has four connectors , and you have not labelled them then we need wiring diagram.

I have not found them yet, I will keep looking, If I do not find anything another expert will step in within 4 hours.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Regards.

Hi- It sounds like you diagnosed the problem correctly. There is a chance there is something wrong with the board but I would replace the top switch first. They are pretty expensive if I remember correctly and be careful of the wiring colors, the last one I changed had the wire colors reversed but the wire labels were correct. Good luck.

One of the oven ignitors does not work

Most likely replacing the ignitor will fix it. I usually replace Viking ignitors with Maytag ones, part number 12400035 (you'll need splice wires and use included wire nuts to connect those, though). Those have a little shorter base, which does not affect anything. Replace both bake ignitors if you can, otherwise, one of the burners will ignite slower and shut off faster, resulting in uneven bake.

FLASH covers a multitude of possibilities. What is the voltage of the blower motor. What you are describing often happens when 220 is wired to a 110 lighting circuit. I would not be running the blower motor although I hope it has inherent built in motor protection. If the voltage is applied higher to light bulbs they become flash bulbs. Florescents can become fire fixtures fast. If you are not an electrician back away from this and disconnect power at your breakers. Do not open up and trouble shoot if you are not qualified so you do not get embarrassed and have a dirt nap. It only takes about 40 vo;ts and a few milliamps cross chess to kill you. Also when ever you turn something on start and keep the habit of using one hand to turn it on and one hand to grab your pants behind you. OK OK or skirt. This prevents a cross chest shock .
