Question about Whirlpool Dryers

1 Answer

Whirlpool gas dryer heats for one cycle, then cool air only.

My Whirlpool gas dryer heats for one cycle, then requires a 45 min period to cool down to run again with heat. Motor/drum always turn but produces heat for only one cycle. I am thinking the gas coils need to be replaced. Would you agree?

Why do the Automatic cycles on my Whirlpool Duet Electric Dryer not always work?

In some dryer's the control panel relies on a thermistor rather than a CYCLING thermostat to regulate the drum's air temperature by monitoring the component's resistance changes; resistance goes down as temperature increases and up when temperature decreases. Once the drum's air temperature reaches a certain level required to dry clothes, the control panel shuts off the heater. The panel will turn the heater on again and begin another heating cycle when the thermistor indicates that more heat is needed to keep the air temperature constant inside the drum

Lastly check your moister sensor. ( located inside the dryer door usually) Especially if machine seems to shut down early and clothes are still wet.
Test with a meter at room temperature and it should show continuity.
A failed moisture sensor will affect the dryer run time in the automatic moisture sensing cycle but it will not affect the heating of the dryer or the timed cycle. Which are reflected by the thermostats.

DRYER HEAT TURNS OFF AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES

  • Get on with replacing the gas valve coils shown to you in the previous link, it will take care of your problem.
  • There are two house circuits/fuses in an electric dryer's circuit.
If one of them is tripped/blown, the drum may turn, but the heater will not operate. Reset the circuit breaker or replace the house fuse.
  • Outlet wired incorrectly.
Have a qualified electrician verify that the supply voltage is correct.
  • Gas supply valve to a gas dryer is not open.
Open the gas supply valve. See Installation Instructions for details.
  • LP gas supply tank is empty or there has been a utility interruption of natural gas.
Refill or replace the LP tank. Call your natural gas utility company.
  • Dryer does not have enough air supply to support the gas burner.
The dryer needs space around it for proper ventilation. Do not stack or place laundry or throw rugs against the front or back of the dryer. See Installation Instructions for details about installing a dryer in a closet or alcove.
  • Incorrect cycle or temperature has been selected.
If the Air Fluff cycle or temperature is selected, the dryer will tumble without heat. Each cycle ends with a Cool Down period during which the load tumbles without heat. Check the location of the indicator on the Cycle Selector knob.

Whirl pool gas dryer mod ggw 925opw3 will not heat up and dry sometimes at start up it get hot but only for about five min then you can feel cool air stat to com out the outside vent???/

It sounds like you could have one or more issues here. please be advised that only a gas technician should work on gas units. There are solenoid coils that are used in gas model dryers they energize the gas valves allowing gas to flow through to the element igniting it. if one or both of these are faulty you will experience a on and off heat problem. part numbers for the solenoids are 694540 and 694539. another possible problem is that you cycling thermostat located on the blower housing is faulty which gauges the temperature of the air coming from the gas flames. If this is faulty it will not receive the correct temperature reading, therefore not calling for any.part number for the cycling thermostat is 8573028.hope this helps

Thanks

I have whirlpool dryer that the heat seems to kick on and off it is gas dryer

If heats for a few minutes then cuts off (heat) , then the 2 coils on the burner valve are probably bad . OR check the vent hose to the outside for good air flow . Sometimes , a dryer is pushed too far back , and it kinks the vent hose . If coils are bad , when dryer cools down , then restarting , cool coils will heat again for a few minutes , then stop heating till they cool off again .

My gas whirlpool dryer won't heat. Cool air does

Hi

Things that could stop a gas dryer from heating:
- glow bar igniter, thermal fuse ( not all models ), coils on the gas valve, gas valve, thermostats, motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, sensor.

Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Dryer not going to cool down cycle, thermal fuse failed 2x

Most problems like this arise from air flow problems. You need to break down the dryer and clean out the lint. Including removal of the filter housing.making sure your outside vent is clear as well.If that fuse keeps blowing you especially need to remove and rinse out that filter housing.

Whirlpool gas dryer

From the sound of your problem, it appears you may have a faulty overtemp switch that gets too hot , opens the circuit to disable gas and flame, then cools down and allows it to start again.. Since you didn't provide a specific model number with your question.. use this link to find replacement whirlpool thermal fuses etc.. http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/whirlpool-dryer.php#fuse

Hope this helps..
