Visit sony esupport site. there have been a lot of known issues like this. if you take a flashlight and shine it on the screen and you can see faintly the text and such, then you have a bad backlight and will need an lcd replacement. if you see nothing and if you plug in an external monitor and see nothing on it, then you run the risk of having a failed gpu on the motherboard. unfortunately i have been seeing this problem too often in the sony vaio series recently
