I would not recommend ironing your ram there is a better way
http://www.web-tronics.com/2200-mtp.html remember the gold strip does not have to be gold.

I have compaq presario 5000 series...and iwant upgrade my ram ...i have 128+128 sd ram so how much i upgrade my ram...can i upgrade 512+512 sd ram OR 256+256 sd ram...thank you

the RAM upgrade will depend on ur motherboard capacity and specification.
u need to check ur MB manual
if ur MB can have only SD RAM then only SD RAM upgrade is possible...DDR will not work....
so be careful while buying ur RAM

intelD845GLLy MB...the following details are from the intel website

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845glly/sb/CS-012825.htm

System Memory Features
The D845GLLY board provide the following memory features:
  • Two DIMM sockets supporting 3.3 V (only) 168-pin 133 MHz Single Data Rate (SDR) SDRAM DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
  • Unbuffered non-ECC DIMMs only
  • Maximum total system memory: 2 GB; minimum total system memory: 64 MB
  • Serial Presence Detect (SPD) DIMMs only
  • Suspend to RAM
Caution Do not use ECC DIMMs with the Desktop Board. Using ECC DIMMs could damage the Desktop Board.
Integrator's Notes:
  • Registered DIMMs are not supported on the Desktop Board.
  • This Desktop Board has been designed to support DIMMs based on 512 Mbit technology for a maximum onboard capacity of up to 2 GB, but this technology has not been validated on this board.

Note To be fully compliant with all applicable PCI33 SDRAM memory specifications, the board should be populated with DIMMs that support the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) data structure. This allows the BIOS to read the SPD data and program the chipset to accurately configure memory settings for optimum performance.
hope this helps
Reg....bye

I would like to nwom how much of memory this laptop support

The Thinkpad is installed with 128 MB SDRAM is standard, and is expandable to 512 MB
There are two memory slots, to expand it to 512 Mb you need two 256 Mb RAM modules and throw away the 128 Mb RAM module, but if you don't throw away this module and you insert a 256 Mb RAM module in the 2nd memory slot then your total memory would be 384 Mb.

Just need to know how to change the ram in my Sony Vaio PCG-v505ap

    visit vaio manual in
    ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Manuals/Notebooks/
You can do this in two ways: opening your notebook and taking a look on the memory modules already installed (we will explain more about this later) or running a program like Everest (available on our download section). We ran Everest (going to Motherboard, Chipset, Memory Slots) on our notebook and found that it was using two 256 MB DDR-SDRAM PC2700 (“DDR333”) modules, for a total of 512 MB.
    imageview.php?image=1680
Figure 1: Checking your current memory configuration with Everest.
If your notebook has an empty memory slot, just go to the computer store and buy a new SO-DIMM module with the same technology (SDRAM or DDR-SDRAM) and speed of any capacity you want – of course you need to know the capacity limit of your notebook. You cannot install a 1 GB module in a notebook that only accepts modules up to 512 MB, for example. Our notebook – a Sony Vaio PCG-V505ECP – accepts modules up to 1 GB, for a total of 2 GB RAM, since it has two memory slots.
For example, if your notebook has one 256 MB module and an empty memory slot, if you buy and install another 256 MB module, it will have 512 MB RAM. If you buy and install a 512 MB module, your notebook will have 768 MB.
If your notebook already has two memory modules, you will need to remove one of the installed modules in order to install the new one. If the two modules have the same capacity, it doesn’t matter which one you will take away, but if they have different capacities, remove the one with smaller capacity. The new RAM capacity of your notebook will be of the capacity of the remaining module plus the capacity of the new module.
In our case, our notebook has two 256 MB modules. So we will remove one of these modules and install a new one on its place. We bought a 1 GB-module, so after installing it our notebook will have 1,280 MB RAM installed (memory math is tricky, since 1 GB equals to 1,024 MB not 1,000; so 1,024 MB + 256 MB = 1,280 MB).

    RAM cuantity

The motherboard you mentioned supports DDR1 RAM.

For windows xp and general application 512 MB is enough.
But if you use memory intensive applications like image/video editing then you can opt for 1-2 GB RAM.

I have a P3 at 500MHz and was wondering with this Motherboard,

The motherboard has three, dual in-line memory module (DIMM) sockets. Minimum memory size is 16 MB; maximum memory size is 768 MB. The largest DIMM supported at this time is 256 MB using unbuffered 128 Mbit technology parts. The BIOS automatically detects memory type, size, and speed.

The motherboard supports the following memory features:
    • 168-pin DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
    • 66 or 100 MHz SDRAM
    • Non-ECC (64-bit) and ECC (72-bit) memory
    • 3.3 V memory only
    • Unbuffered Single- or double-sided DIMMs in the following sizes:

    DIMM Size Non-ECC Configuration ECC Configuration 16 MB 2M x 64 2M x 72 32 MB 4M x 64 4M x 72 64 MB 8M x 64 8M x 72 128 MB 16M x 64 16M x 72 256MB 32M x 64 32M x 72

Synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) can be installed in one, two, or three sockets. EDO DIMMs are not supported. Memory size and speed can vary between sockets.

Note: Intel® Pentium® II processors with 100 MHz front-side bus should be paired only with 100 MHz SDRAM. Processors with 66 MHz front-side bus can be paired with either 66 MHz or 100 MHz SDRAM.

All memory components and DIMMs used with the Intel® SE440BX-2 motherboard should comply with the PC SDRAM specifications. These include: the PC SDRAM Specification (memory component specific), the PC Unbuffered DIMM Specification, and the PC Serial Presence Detect Specification.

Note: It is recommended that SPD memory DIMMs be used with the SE440BX-2 motherboard. However, the BIOS will allow the use of non-SPD DIMM memory.

So the max you can go is 3 x 256 MB.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate fixya.

you can add up to 2 gb RAM using either 2 x 184 Pin DIMMs or 2 x 168 Pin SDRAM DIMMs. However that MB does support pc400. The supported RAM speeds are 100, 133, 200, and 266 MHz

You can buy a pair of Kingston 256 MB DDR SDRAM PC2100 (266 MHz) from the kingston website for under $50
    part no: KVR266X64C25/256

Kingston is a well known and respected manufacturer of memory.
