Question about NetGear WGR614 Router

1 Answer

Router does not lock in chan 11 to have a constant connection. In the smart wizard display the signal is strong for few seconds on chan 11, then it switches to ch 2, 5, 8 with no signal. It continually does this. I am able to connect to wifi and outside routers, but not my own.

Smart tv cant establish a reliable connection to server

Probably your signal is not strong enough. TV may be too far from WIFI router. Try moving it closer to router. If that improves performance then decide what you need to do next. Perhaps move the router or get a signal booster.

Wireless routers do what is called signal shifting. This means as the signal gets weaker (either because of distance or because it has to pass through walls, strong electrical fields etc) the speed is automatically dropped to as low as 6mbps. All the obstacles will kill your signal very quickly as well. You can try moving your router to a better location or invest in a repeater to place between your wireless router and the computer.

Confirm SSID error code 5100 my WII cannot get it to hook up to internet

Get into your router settings and change your security settings from WEP to WPA2 -PSK (AES), you will have to retype the password for any other computers or devices you have for them to connect again
Also change the channel that the router is broadcasting on, i'd reccomend 1 or 11, or look to see what people around you are using and use a different number,
if someone is using 11 and you see low signal, use 11 if someone is using 11 and the signal is strong use 1

How to instal

Hi,
You'll wanna check out: ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/WNR1000_SM_WW_23Jan09.pdf
Look for "installation"..
To help you set up your router and get on the Internet quickly, the Resource CD contains a Smart Wizard™ Installation Assistant. The Installation Assistant walks you through the steps required to connect your router, modem, and PC(s); configure your wireless settings; and enable wireless security for your network. When you have finished, you will be Internet ready!
You can set up your wireless router using one of two methods:
• Smart Wizard Setup: The Smart Wizard Installation Assistant setup is available on your Resource CD. See "Installing Your Router Using the Smart Wizard" on page 9 to use the Smart Wizard Installation Assistant.
- This is the easiest option. The wizard guides you through the setup process. It automates many of the steps and verifies that the steps have been successfully completed.
- Smart Wizard requires a PC running Microsoft Windows.
• Manual Setup: If you cannot or prefer not to use the Smart Wizard Installation Assistant, see "Manually Installing Your Router" on page 13. For example, if you are connecting to a Mac, are using a Linux operating system, or are technically knowledgeable, select this option. If you choose to use this option and install your router manually, for best results, install and set up your router in this order:
Failure to follow these guidelines can result in significant performance degradation or an inability to wirelessly connect to the Internet.
NETGEAR does not recommend or support adding a NETGEAR router behind another router, or replacing a gateway with a a NETGEAR router.
If you have a Macintosh or Linux system, you must use the manual installation method (see "Manually Installing Your Router" on page 13).Getting to Know Your Wireless Router 7
1. Install and connect your wireless router to your network (see "Connecting Your Wireless Router" on page 14).
2. Set up your wireless router for Internet access (see "Setting Up Your Router for Internet Access" on page 18).
3. Configure your wireless network and select wireless security settings to protect your wireless network (see "Configuring Your Wireless Network" on page 21)

The signal is strong but there's no connection to internet

I have this problem sometimes. If you lose connection to the modem, you can't connect back to it, you have to reset the modem. Goto the modem, unplug it, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Goto your connections, select yours, disconnect and then reconnect, wait a few seconds and it should connect. Hope this helps, let me know if it does or doesn't.

Wireless network adapter not working

I've had a similar problem with a USB wireless adapter working ok for over a year and it recently stopped connecting because it would keep scanning different channels every 30 seconds or so.

The solution that worked for me was to change the default radio channel on the access point (for my netgear router I did this by logging on to 192.168.1.1 and changing the settings in there).

Changing the channel from the default 11 to (lucky) 7 did the trick. The router notes say that changing channels may help if another access point is interfering with the signal, and my issue only cropped up when some new neighbors moved in so my best guess is they were also using channel 11. Hope this helps.
