Question about Lowrance GPS

2 Answers

I have a Lowrance X55A that has a spotty LCD display.. vertical lines throughout the display. I was looking to disassemble it to see if the display has a loose connection or if a new one can be found.

Here is a picture of the Rear.. I removed the screw found at the arrow...
The case seems to be sealed...

There are no screws to take it apart. Has anyone ever disassembled one of these before?

The case for this unit is sealed, to get into the case you will need to literally pry it open. If you are certain you are no longer under warranty then I suppose you could try this. However it's definitely not recommend.

I can tell you right now the connection for the screen is not loose, it's a digital connection so either you get something on the screen or you don't. It sounds like LCD failure for certain. Your best bet is to contact Lowrance for repairs / replacement. If you do get it apart, and you somehow order just an LCD for the unit, you will never really get it to go back together again the way it should. I definitely recommend you speak with Lawrance.

Thanks

Tim

Hi

I've never seen any displays for these being sold outside of the dealers.
http://www.lowrance.com/en/Dealer-Locator/
Here is the dealer locator, they should have replacement parts.

As for instructions, just start by taking out all screws you find from the unit also look under soft objects and labels for screws, the cover will most likely be hold in place with plastic clips that will snap open with a small flat screwdriver.

I assume your outside of warranty, if your in warranty you don't want to take it apart.

Contact a local dealer and see how much the screen replacement would cost.

possibly glue is used to keep the cover together and so water doesn't get inside.

Lcd screen has lines in the middle area (3" wide

Laptop screen display problems occur for many different reasons. Some issues need professional attention, but others can be repaired by the owner. A screen that displays vertical lines often means that there is a problem with the video cable connection to the LCD screen, or the cable itself. In order to repair this problem, the display screen must be disassembled. If you feel confident that this task is within your realm of expertise, follow the steps below to remove your laptop's LCD panel and fix the vertical line problem on your laptop screen.

1. Remove the rubber seals covering the screws on your screen's outer frame using a flat-head screwdriver. Remove the screws, then carefully pry the frame from the screen using your fingers. Release the plastic latches holding the framing in place, then remove.

2. Remove the screws holding the screen to the support brackets. You will see the video cable, which is attached to the back of the LCD screen. Try unplugging and reconnecting this cable, making sure that it is seated properly. If the problem was the connection, this may solve the vertical line issue.

3. Turn on the laptop. Move the video cable around a bit, without moving or touching the screen. Check the screen to see if the display image changes at all. If it does, the problem may be with the cable itself.
4. Move the laptop screen around to see if this affects the display. If so, the problem is most likely with the LCD screen itself, not the video cable. Replacing the screen will be necessary.

I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.

Win 7, Samsung LCD, initial BIOS display. Then vertical lines. If choose BIOS setup also scrolling vertical lines (looks like barcode) Thank you!

Hi,

If the lines appear in the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) setup, you are having problem with the LCD.

Here are some parts to check. Either you need to reinsert or replace.
- LCD cable
- LCD inverter
- LCD itself

Note: The LCD inverter fails often than other LCD assemblies.

Hope this helps.

No image in my screen

When you ask for help, give make and model number. In this case, if display is a CRT type (cathode ray tube, not LCD), then a horizontal single line in the center of the screen indicates a lack of vertical deflection. If it is a vertical line in the center of the screen, it is a lack of horizontal deflection. Both problems can be caused by any number of components, all internal, and requires a technican to repair. Lowrance has a fixed fee system for their factory repairs. See their online info for support: http://www.lowrance.com/en/Support/Service-Information/Service-Rates/

Inspiron 1150 lines on screeN problem.

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and see if it also has the vertical lines. If the external monitor looks fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is bad. If the monitor has the vertical lines displayed on it, then your graphics card or motherboard is bad.
