All you have to do is open the top cover and let the printer unit move at the center then pull knob towards you it locks to access the print/daisy wheel, remove it and replace it with the better one.Push the knob back.xerox 6010 automatically senses the home positin of the print wheel.

Have you tried oiling it w/3-n-1 oil? Often the sticking problem is nothing more than it needs lubrication.

I have an xerox memorywriter 6010 and when i type, some of the letters are only half there or lighter than the others.

Check for folds in the ribbon and look at it to be sure it is lifting and feeding properly, check the printwheel for bent or broken spokes.
Print on a multipart form, if the carbons are good you have a ribbon problem.

Very simple its a cartridge style ribbon

Start by holding the cartridge in both hands and gently insert the ribbon at an angle downward and then the back portion next and push down all the way. Then wind the ribbon in the direction in the arrow about two or three turns.

Pull back on the small grey handel just in front of the printwheel, drop the P/W in with the letters facing the platen, push the grey handel to the back, turn it on and the P/W will reset itself.
