I have not opened the amp ,so the tubes are not exposed.amp plays great most of the time, when it messes up it gets like static in it.

Did you tap the tubes with something non-conductive? If you can hear the taps thru the amp then that tube is microphonic and needs replaced. Also check for a white haze on the top of the tubes. This is a visual indication that the tube has been damaged and is no longer sealed.

First make sure you have the TRIM knob positioned correctly. When playing loud the Red Led should just blink a bit so you know you're not overloading the preamp and Digital sections. The Twin Reverb Patch is a clean place to start so select that first. On this amp it's a good idea to set the MASTER to 5 and use the VOLUME control at as low a setting as you can. The GAIN control should be set under 4. You better sound crystal clear on this setting. Try turning up the volume to see how loud you can get without breaking up. It's a guitar amp so there will be some grainy distortion but it should be very light. I bet you get through this test without much trouble. After that you need to be very careful about what settings you're using since many of the presets may not mesh with your guitar pickups. You should concentrate on tweaking one highgain setting and learn about how the controls interact. The amp is so much more complicated than a 10 knob standard guitar amp. Most people need to put in some time to get a handle on it.

As far as the tubes go, typically they can get microphonic which was a problem with versions 1.1 and 1.0 of this amp so check that. Fender had a Cyber twin upgrade kit way back to fix this but if you have version 1.2 or 1.3 that's not it. Problems with this amp are typically caused by control setting more often than an electronic problem but this reponse should get you started figuring it out.

Marshall MB4410, with low volume gives no real volume,

Guitar amps have preamp sections (think unpowered audio mixer) and power amp sections (Crown rack-mount amp). An excellent way to isolate audio problems if amp is still producing audio is to check the preamp out (line out). Preamp output distorted = preamp failure. Connect MP3 player to "Power Amp In"...sound distorted = power amp failure. In your case the latter is the case as your "line out" is clean. Also test each speaker for clear sound as speaker cone damage from being overpowered is fairly common. At 300w. I'll assume the failure was not from cranking the volume to loud but a shorted speaker or speaker wiring could zap the power amp in an instant.

What are the control knobs on a fender usa telecaster for. explain each knob please

The one furthest from the switch is volume. The next one is a tone knob. Volume rasises or lowers the resistance and makes the guitar louder. You can also "clean up" a distorted tone by rolling off volume. Tone makes the sound more bassy or more treble.

FM 65R plays and sounds great for about 5- 10 minutes then it sounds weak and distorted. If I play directly into the power amp input it sounds great again just no control for the volume and tone.

Also the volume will probably be lower going into the line level PA input... If the amp is shutting down for thermal reasons, driving it less might not get to the point of shutdown. The schematic shows a temp sensor that reduces and shuts down the amp if the heatsinks get to hot. Possibly you are driving the amp harder than it is intended, If it is as loud (I doubt it) driving the PA input, then I would expect it to shutdown, but you would probably have to drive it harder than your guitar because guitar levels are well below line level. The amp claims 65 watts... don't believe everything you read in spec sheets... You should be able to generate 100 Db of sound with it... The more distortion you use will drive the amp harder and heat the heatsinks faster.

try a differrent speaker of suitable wattage and ohmage (displayed with a number next to a ? symbol on the back of the speaker),

or

remove the original amp speaker and gently push in and out on it, checking for uneven resistance or scratching. the speaker should retract and return smoothly, without any scratchiness or uneven resistance from within, and if there is any of this scratchiness or uneven resistance from within, the speaker is likely damaged from too much wattage or distortion.

For the Drive channel you need to use the Drive control AND the MASTER volume control. When the Drive channel is active, the Channel Indicator lamp should be RED indicating the Drive Channel is active. The Drive control knob is used to adjust the preamp volume and distortion level of the Drive Channel. This gives you a clue as to what to check if adjusting the controls doesn't work -- the preamp tubes. Having said that, ONLY try to check these tubes with the amp OFF! Never stick your hand up into the chassis of a live amp. It could be lethal. Your preamp tubes are the ones farthest from where the power cord enters the chassis. They have a rubber like stabilizer on them. They have a tendency to wiggle loose, which is part of the reason for the stabilizer. Again, if you're not familiar with the insides...stay out and get an amp tech to help you.

The Normal Channel only uses the Volume Control to adjust volume.

My fender hot rod deluxe is distorting in clean channel when I push the volume past 2

Realize that the number on the volume control is only relative... it means nothing regarding what the amp can produce. With a high level output guitar you can easily drive the amp into distortion at very low volume control level settings... what counts is the actual output sound volume and specifically the voltage output going to the speaker. Once the amp reaches saturation, any further input just pushes it into distortion or "flat topping".
An oscilloscope on the output will quickly show when amp starts to flat top.

Fender ultra deluxe amp volume max out a number 7 volume control. will not get any louder

It is likely that the amp is flat topped at the 7 setting. When the amp is producing the maximum voltage output it is capable of, that is ALL you can get out of it... The numbers on the dial mean NOTHING and are only relative. If you have high output guitars you might find the maximum might only be 3 on the dial for example...
If you need it louder, get a bigger amp and speakers. You should ALSO get a sound meter and follow OSHA guidelines for sound exposure... I know several musicians that now are nearly deaf because of being exposed to high sound levels... their music careers are now gone as they can no longer hear well enough. You need to protect your hearing for the long term. Great musicians don't need loud, but quality and inovation in their music.

Wayne, There's a time to take the amp to a pro shop andf get it done right. It' saves time and headaches, and also keeps you from inadvertantly smoking other parts or yourself. Now is that time.

When I turn the volume up past 3 it starts this

I suspect you are going into protect mode which backs the gain way off to prevent over driving.

You MAY be trying to get too much volume out of it. Remember that the value of "3" on the volume means ALMOST nothing as you may have a hotter guitar. Some guitars with internal preamps EASILY overdrive the amps at low settings. Do not use excessive gain at the input.

If the amp is real low volume way below what is needed to play, then there may be a problem with the protection/compressor circuit.

Suggestion: Take your guitar to a music store and compare action on an IDENTICAL amp.
