Sony Vaio sart up problem

Hi..I have not used my Sony Vaio VGC V2M desktop for a while as i have been away. When i turn it on it fires up and the screen comes up the the VAIO logo and intel pentium 4 logo.

Then after a couple of seconds screen goes blank and just stays blank, and the fan is running but very noisy

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be and a solution.

Thanks in advance

This type of problem is likely be a hardware problem. The porwer supply is shutting down, but not the CPU Fan for heat protection. You ha to do a maintenance job first. Disconnect and open up the computer, first touch the chassis to discharge any static charge you may have. Clean every thing inside, do not remove the CPU heat sink.

When all is cleaned. Troubleshoot!

  1. Disconnect the drives
  2. Take the memory modules out. Note the notch in the botton of the module(s), is important. The memory only fit one way.
  3. Take out any PCI Card you have.
  4. Turn on the PC. If it Beee-beee-beee, etc. Good sign!
  5. Disconnect and place one memory module at a time. Turn on. Screen is Working (booting)? Note: If you have a Video Card extracted, One beep is good. Replace with the other memory, if good, memory are OK.
  6. Use these step for the PCI cards, but not replacing, only adding them.
  7. If the PC is working, Connect the drives one by one. The Hard Drive of Operating System Last.
  8. If from step 1 to step 7 the computer boots (you see booting on screen) You are done.
If you had the the computer without drives, memory, and PCI cards, only the motherboard, and it does nothing, Hmm! you have a problem. Look for the BIOS jumper to reset the BIOS, if still nothing, I take the motherboard goes 10-7.

At this point, I strongly recommend call a Tech for Second Opinion.

Maybe you need to reconfigure BIOS?
Press "del" in most cases of MB's and look around the menu and you should see "Chabge to factory Default setting" or something like that.
Just reset it to factory settings. If that does not work have a look for a Live XP! CD and try booting from that.

Need to know how to turn on the web cam found on the sony vaio all-in-one desktop model no. vgc-ls25e?

Install drivers for your specified vaio. you can always download web cam drivers free from the vioa website or just search online for specific drivers of your vaio ie "Webcam drivers for Vaio desktop - vgc-Is25e" search for something like that hopefully they are available for download free of charge. Or If you have the drivers Cd/DVD use it and install the necessary drivers for your webcam.

Have a Sony Vaio PC VGC-RA837G when I turn it on I get the intel screen then the VAIO screen appears and it stops there. I have booted with the recovery disc and it enters recovery utility then gets to...

Sounds like you've got a problem with your hard drive.

An easy way to troubleshoot your system would be to (ON A WORKING COMPUTER)

Download and burn a copy of UBUNTU

Boot the non-working computer with the UBUNTU disc, check the top under PLACES to see if your hard drive and files appear.

If you need more help, let me know. There's a lot to cover.

I can't even see where to find it let alone turn it on?

I could not find an online "User Guide" for the model-number that you cited.

for the VGC-VA-10G manual, and read this User Guide.

However, the ON/OFF switch is in the same position on this computer as it is on your computer.

Using the 2nd hard drive

Not without you saying what OS you're using, how you want to use it in applications, and how you wanted to attach it to the machine if it's not already installed.

I mean, offhand I'd say if you have 2 free bays in there, to either use those or mount that drive (along with a generally identical one) in Zalman drive coolers in the case, connect them so you can use SCA RAID 0 on them, set that RAID up, format to XFS or another choice filesystem, and start using it then.
