You have a 512 mb card in the ram slot which gives you an effective ram of around 480 mb
it is random memory and is a storage space which the cpu uses to move data around while it does it's job
if you want to increase the ram then there should be a spare ram card slot next to the one you have so you can install another ram card of exactly the same value to double the ram memory
in some instances ( like game playing ) it can increase the speed of the computer

What type of memory can I add? Can I download a manual?

I have had very good luck with the crucial memory advisor, and can recommend their memory as a reliable and often competitively priced upgrade for your system. Go to www.crucial.com and either install the advisor software or type in your system information. You can find out how much ram your system has installed by going to the control panel> system and reading the summary on the general tab. It will say something like 1 Gb ram.
The crucial advisor will tell you what type of memory is compatible with your system, and how much it will take. For more general info on the subject, see here.
Finally, you may find more detailed info available at your computer manufacturer's support site, depending on the particular maker. Search there for 'upgrade ram.'

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Security light on info panel blinks all the time and runs down the battery and the back door power locks do not unlock or lock when depressing the buttons is there a fuse for this and where can it be found

the light should blink all the time without running down your battery, that tells you it's working. pull one fuse at a time and see if any are blown for your locks. you may need a new battery.
