Have a look for a latch somewhere?
If not look for a hidden screw.

Troubleshooting Laptop Optical Drive Issues - CD/DVD Not Ejecting

Symptom

My laptop's CD/DVD tray won't eject when I hit the Eject button.

Diagnosis & Solution

If this happens while the operating system is running, there is a possibility that the drive may be blocked or disabled in software. In order to eliminate this possibility as the root cause of the problem, restart the laptop & hit the CD/DVD's Eject button. If your CD/DVD's tray did not eject, there is a possibility that the drive is not properly seated in the bay.

When the CD/DVD drive is not properly seated in its bay, it might not be connected to power. If the drive is in a swappable bay, try removing it & re-installing, & make sure that the release latch snaps to the locked position when it is installed. However, if the drive is permanently mounted, it shouldn't break free of its connector unless it is not secured in place. This can happen if the CD/DVD drive is secured with a single screw which was removed in an earlier repair & never replaced. The drive can function & stay in place for months without being secured, because it's a tight fit & the power/data connector tends to hold it in place. But occasionally, it might become loosely connected with the power/data connector.

If the tray doesn't eject even when the CD/DVD drive is seated properly in its bay, then the last resort is to power down the laptop & use the emergency release pinhole on the front faceplate. You can do this with the drive installed in the bay, but if it's the swappable type, it's easier to do with the drive out & on the table. Straighten out a length of a paperclip that's just thin enough to fit through the hole, & gently insert it. Listen for the release click & try to feel it through your fingers. When the tray releases, it may spring out half inch, or it may barely move at all, so you have to get a hold of the front of the tray to pull it out.

If a disc has come apart in the drive, either because it shattered or a stick-on label lifted off, getting all the bits out of the CD/DVD drive & getting it working again isn't a high probability, so don't test it with a disc of any value after attempting the repair. If it's an electrical/mechanical failure of the ejector mechanism, repairing it yourself isn't practical.

The shift interlock button wont release the gear shift to go in park or drive

Its a simple fix - you just need to put your right hand underneath the dash, under the ignition switch with the stuck key, and feel around for the stiff transmission-shift-lock cable, and just giggle it about a bit. Try all directions, don't be aggressive with it; and eventually you will be able to turn the key to the LOCK position. Good luck

I took the cover off the steering column by removing 4 screws. (I had to remove the dash by removing 2 screws behind the Hood release and yanking the cover off. This is how you gain access to the two forward most bolts on the steering column cover.) From hear you should see the shift interlock on the top right of the sterring column. Pull the white lever to release the key lock. Turn the key to lock and remove your key.
I would then purchase a new interlock and replace it.

Dvd won't eject. It lights up flashing like wants to open. I tried to eject dvd every way possible ie., computer link, etc

All CD / DVD drives have a Eject Pin Hole. The only thing we need is a paper clip to use it

krishtam1_dh_8.jpg
All we have to do is bend it at the first curve 180 degrees (straitening it out). Then take the second curve and bend it 90 degrees. Now we need to locate the Eject Pin Hole.

krishtam1_dh_9.jpg
Laptop - Notebook CD / DVD drives:
The trays on laptops/notebooks are spring loaded, so all that is needed is to release the locking mechanism. You do not have to insert the paper clip as far as with a desktop CD / DVD drive, as you are not connecting to the gearing under the tray. Gently insert the paper clip into the Eject Pin Hole. Once you feel it make contact, gently push in and the tray will eject immediately. Once done, gently push the tray back inward until it locks back into place.

krishtam1_dh_10.jpg

Desktop CD / DVD drives:
Gently insert the modified paper clip into the Eject Pin Hole until you feel it make contact with the gear underneath the tray. Firmly pressing inward, you will notice the tray to start to move out. Press inward until you have enough room to get your finger under the tray and then pull it out the rest of the way. If you can only get a small portion of the tray out, you can use the other end of the paper clip to gently pry open the tray enough to get your finger under it. Once done, gently push back the tray to the closed position. It will close firmly when the system is powered up.

Compaq cq60-419wm - my dvd/cd drive is not working, not even recognized as being there by the computer (not listed as a drive available under My Computer)

If it's not recognised, look for a little latch on the underside of the laptop that releases the drive completely. If you can manage to slide the whole unit out, push it back in firmly until the latch clicks into the locked position again. Power the laptop up and try again.

A.2 The maximum hard drive all depend on the type of windows you will be installing and the chipset on the Laptop. The standard chipset for the HP NX6120 is Intel 915GM and does not any limit set

To found out what type of chipset is installed open Device Manager using the steps listed for your particular operating system.

The solution turned out to be just pushing the DVD drawer in and popping it out a few dozen times. Probably not the best solution, but the DVD player works and it slides smoothly now.

Acer Aspire 5920 DVD region locked!!!!!

Actually, the answer isn't nice at all. It's not the software, it's the drive itself. You can only change a drive's region 5 times before it is completely locked. I'm not sure if it's possible to flash the drive's bios and start from scratch, but I'd imagine if it were possible, you wouldn't want to do it yourself because it involved opening the drive itself.
That sad thing about this is that you cannot change the code again, that disk drive is completely locked now.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
Caid.

If there is a tiny pin hole in the front a straightened paper clip does wonders. Simply insert to release the drawer. At least that's how it works on computers ;)
