Auto focus or any focus not working on Xacti VPC-CG20

See SM for Your cameras -

You have problem in Zoom:
1. Focus motor
2. Focus drive mechanism

If You not work with repair cameras - not touch
And - not remove the matrix from the lens - you will lose all focus adjustment.

There are adapters available to fit the old Minolta manual-focus lenses on Sony alpha-series dSLRs as well as Sony NEX-series interchangeable lens cameras. The lenses obviously will not autofocus and, depending on the lens and camera body, you may lose some or all exposure metering capability.

My camera goes on initially with a good image, then i lose.

Launch your logitech toolbar -
Open Quick Capture ( 2 film frames)
Open settings ( 2 gear cogs ) adjust zoom slider - you may also have a focus ring around the lens of the camera as well

The lens makes 'graunching' noises at start-up,+ is not focusing

Cameras can be like cars. Better to keep trading them in for the newer model before they are worthless. Yes, that is the broken gears you are hearing. It may be fixable, but probably not worth the 2 hours of labor from a professional to fix it. It could just be a grain of sand in the gearbox if you are willing to spend the time to go look.

The lens of my digital camera has a problem zooming in and out correctly and some times loses focus. Also the camera turns off with the lens in a zoomed out position. how can i fix this problem.

It sounds like your lens is defective and needs to be cleaned, repaired or replaced if you are seeing an error message that reads "E:18", "E:61" or "Lens error, restart camera" or something similar. Turning the camera off and back on again will not fix the problem unfortunately.

There are online places that will do it for a decent price and there are others that overcharge by way too much.

I know this because I own one that charges a reasonable price to do the repair! (Google 'darntoothysam')

Just let us know if we can help! Good luck from

Losing focus

Usually this is a back focus problem; also called a flange back adjustment.  If the back focus adjustment is possible on this camera, zoom out wide - open iris all the way - and adjust focus and lock position.

Two possible solutions. The camera may be set to Macro. The lens may have failed. If the camera is not set to macro then the lens has to be replaced and the camera reprogrammed.
