Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

I replaced the LTO2 drive (wouldn't release caretridges) in the sled with another IBM Ultrium 2 drive, buying the drive from a third party vendor. I am now getting a "Drive 1 Invalid Call Service" message. The unit is out of warranty, so I put $750 on the line for phone support. Quantum said the firmware on the new drive is incompatible with the sled, and I must buy a new sled with drive pre-installed (at $7,500). (The drive shows up in Device Manager as a Dell drive). Do I have any other recourse? Can I somehow update the firmware on the drive I purchased??

    Okay, so somehow my title got replaced and this request ended up in the Printers forum! I hope we are on the same page after all!

Is IBM (18P7231) LTO 2 Tape Drive still supportable from IBM?


Probably not for direct service unless you still have a contract with them but there are many 3rd-party suppliers and vendors out there AND there is plent of information on LTO-2 at the IBM website.

are you using the correct cable for the drive - it needs to be the correct cable that came with the drive - also is it terminated

maybe you can try to run a cleaning tape see if it help ... else getting a replacement for Drive 3 would be your next available option.

3581 Autolder problem


You can try nsasia@hotmail.com i send my IBM 3581-H17 there for repair and upgraded from IBM 3581-H17 to IBM 3581-H23.

They do advance replacement too.

There is a tape stuck in the LTO 3582-L23, how to takeout manually?


Its not easy to remove the stuck tape as it require you to

1. Remove the sled from the library
2. Remove the drive from the Sled.
3. The Drive Part would be more complicated.

I sugguest you send it to a tape drive repair centre and let them service it for you.

No Compatible media found in HP Tape Drive


Try a brand new tape fresh out the wrapper.

If that doesnt work make sure you are using the right drive in your backup software!

It sounds like a message often seen in windows backup where you have selected the wrong tape drive from the list and it just tells you "No compatible media found" when actually the drive listed isnt even connected to your system still

Error on IBM 3581 tape library.


Error 5 states that there is a problem with the drive and not the library, either the tape path or read/write head. Replaced drive - works fine

ATL Superloader with LTO2 drive


The LTO family drives all support a tape-related diagnostic spec called TapeAlert, and if you use a software product that decodes it and can dump out all of the settings related to firmware, error logs, etc ... then I have no doubt it will provide root cause. Check out http://www.santools.com/smart/unix/manual (the code is also ported to windows. There are links for TapeAlert reporting) Or go to http://www.tapealert.org for info on the spec.
