There is the possibility that you might have a defective ballast, it might not have enough voltage to keep up with your new lamp, and that's why it switches off and makes the 3 indicator lights flash, letting you know that the bulb is defective, but it's not the bulb, it's the ballast

Problem for Sony Grand WEGA KDF-55WF655. Hello,

5 times Red LED blinks means Lamp Driver Error. (KDF-55WF655)
2 possible reasons, either Lamp is gone or Ballast Supply got bad.
Replace lamp first, in most cases it solved the problem.
How old is this TV and did you replaced lamp recently?
Thanks.

I have a Sony LCD projection TV product code KDF-E42A12 which is almost 3 years old. It was working fine but suddenly made a 'clunk' noise and went blank. When switching it on the TV wont start but goes...

Three blinks means a lamp door error. There are two switches in your TV that put the TV into protect when either the lamp is not properly seated or the lamp door is loose.

First open the lamp door on the TV to check the lamp. A defective lamp sometimes could also cause the TV to generate this error code. If you see either a shattered or cloudy bulb then you will need to replace the lamp. The "Clunk" sound you hear was most likely the lamp shattering.

If the lamp is okay, you will need to check the switches for the lamp and lamp door. They are called the T1 and T2 boards. The T1 board is visible when you have the lamp door open. It is on one of the sides inside the TV on next to where the lamp door opens. You should see the switch which is a little board (about 1" by 2") with a very little (about 1/2" by 1/8" ) coming out on the side of the board. There is another board almost exactly like it called the T2 board near where the lamp goes into the TV. This could have also become loose. If you see the metal pieces are loose or missing, the boards need to be repaired. You could either replace the boards if the metal piece is missing or just repair the boards by setting the metal pieces in the correct potions where they make good contact with the switch when the lamp and lamp door in set properly.

Also you could just bypass the switches by making a solder bridge (solder across) the connection to the T1 and T2 boards that will trick the TV into thinking the Switches are closed and bypass this error.

The lamp light does not have to flash on this set for it to be the lamp, and most likely it is just that, the lamp. These sets when the lamps get weak they will do exactly what yours is doing.

If standby light flash 3 times that means Lamp Cover is open or not fixed properly on its place.
Please make sure lamp cover is fixed securely.
Have you replaced its lamp recently?
Thanks.
