Question about Kenmore Freezer 20.3 cu. ft. Frost Free Upright Freezer

1 Answer

I have a 7 year old Kenmore Upright Refrigerator/Freezer on top. I am losing the temp in the fridge part only. The back up the freezer gets a thick layer of ice buildup and when i remove the back panel the defroster coil is incased in ice. I have to defrost it with a blowdryer and restart the fridge to get it to cool again. Do I need a new Time Deforst control?

After you taken the back panel off and see a lot of ice forming on the coil before you use your hairdryer you should locate the timer and turn the center of the timer manually into defrost cycle. If you can see or hear the ice melting then your problem is the timer defective. Change the timer and that is all. But if it doesn't do anything then you will need a little bit more on electrical knowledge to deal with the rest on defrost temperature control and the element itself. Hope this help, God Bless.

Check these two things first.  1.  Is there a thick frost buildup on the back panel at the bottom half of the freezer?  2.  Do you hear the fan running inside the freezer?  Let me know what you find.

Kenmore freezer not cold at all!

We had a Kenmore upright which worked fine but then suddenly was not keeping food frozen. Long story short, do not store anything on top of the freezer unit. It will insulate the coils that run across the top of the unit, and cause your compressor to work harder than it needs to, and eventually overheat and become ineffective. Says nothing about it in the user manual. We learned the hard way by losing food.
