Question about Audio Players & Recorders
I have a 3cd changer stereo with a SAMSUNG SOH-AD3 laser pick-up unit. It recently got weak, so I brougt a new laser unit from a local store. Anyone know how do I change it, because i don't wanna mess things up. (I'm a student at electronics university so I know the basics, just haven't changed a laser unit until now.)
Normally laser units are fairly straight forward to fit just be careful of the ribbon cable connectors and you may need to dismantle a fair bit to get to the tray mechanism. Alternatively the original unit may be fine. First check the lens and if dirty use isopropanyl on a cotton bud. Next with the cd drive mechanism out of the unit, flip it upside down and move the laser unit forward enough so you can see the underside. Have a look and see if you can see a potentiometer there may be two but most likely one. Using a pot tool or a small flat bladed screwdriver turn the pot clockwise about an eigth of a turn. Reassemble and give it a go. What your doing is turning up the frequency of the laser this normally sorts this kind of problem. Admittedly the use of an oscilloscope to read the frequency correctly would be ideal but I've adjusted hundreds of lasers over the years without one with no problems. Good luck. Oh if you do try this and it works get your money back on the new laser
