I have ultrium 3 tape drive defective and when

I have ultrium 3 tape drive defective and when replacement did and you go to the device manage tape drive does not seen so what is the problem of that server ?

    yes, i did according you instruction but device manage doesn't recognised and the green liht is on that tape drive got power so it can't make backup

    Have you made sure that the connection between the server & the tape drive is OK?
    Did you try to power down the tape drive, power down the server, power
    up the tape unit after 30 seconds, & then power up the server?

Are you using the correct cable for the drive - it needs to be the correct cable that came with the drive - also is it terminated

firstly....double check the connection....verify it is tight....if ok, then go to control panel, then device manager, then properties, then uninstall ultrium....then reboot.....it should sense the unit is there then auto install drivers for it and you SHOULD be ready to go! but post back your results!!!

Try to reseat the controller from the PCI slot.
Reseat the SAS cable.

I have to admit this is a tough one. You seem to have tried most things i would try 1st.

I would suggest trying to download an eval coy of another backup program such as backup exec 12.5 from the symantec website and trying that.

This enables you to eliminate the backup software from your enquiries and if you also enable BUEX to use its own drivers (rather than the standard windows drivers) then that is another thing eliminated.

http://www.trilan-it.com/ are pretty good near the Berkshire area if you need a field call to help sort the issue but i would try BUEX 1st as that will help diagnose the problem even if you dont wish to continue with their software
