Question about Buffalo Technology 1TB DriveStation TurboUSB (2x500) External Hard Drive

Cannot startup XP if connected to the 1T Buffalo HD

Got the 1T Buffalo DriveStation HD last week. After plugging it to my XP and installing the software, the computer hangs (may be hanged in the BIOS boot) after reboot and does not go any further. The only thing I can do is to unplug the drive and boot the computer again, then it will start up normally.
Are there anything steps I missed out? Or is there something wrong with my HD? Can anyone help?

    Thanks for the information, kamal1984.
I tried to reset the boot option but it still didn't work. My boot option shows three options, two sets of serial codes and a 'Disabled' for the third option. I changed the boot priority of the options and it still could not be started up when connected to the HD. Any other suggestions?

Set first device as your harddisk is bios.
When you power up the computer press F2 or "del" key to enter in bios.then go to boot option then set first boot as hdd.

1. If this is a usb connection it is possible the electronics have failed or the usb cord has become defective.
2. If you have a AC adapter then this also can be defective.
3. you may have to purchase another case and install the hard drive in the drive station to the new case
4. If the case is purchase with in the last 15 to 30 days you can take it back for a replacement at the store you purchased it from.

My computer is failing to recognise it, therefore I cannot access all my files. My computer started by warning me that the external hard drive has malfunctioned, then it would say it cannot recognise it....

Too Bad.
do this
take apart the hard drive enclosure. and try to connect the hard drive direct to the computer, if you can't do this, try with another adapter, if this fails your HD is Die. sorry

My Buffalo drivestation 1TB was working ok until I switched pc of

Hi Sandra,

From the sounds of it you powered off your laptop while the Buffalo drive was connected.

If this is the case you have most likely damaged the partition and possibly a small amount of the data on the drive.

If you don't have anything crucial on the drive you should be able to go into Disk Manager and reformat it, this will make it usable again.

If you have files on the drive you cannot afford to lose then you will need the help of a data recovery pro, but this type of failure is pretty simple for them to recover from in most cases.

Comment back telling me if the data needs recovery or not, if it does, include you Country, State and City and I will refer you to an appropriate Pro, if not let me know it's ok to format and I will provide you with the steps you require.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Time for physical format ???

Did you fit the drive into the Buffalo drive case? If so, take it out and put it in your computer tower/case and format it from there. Then put it back into your Buffalo case.
Go to the Buffalo sight and see if your Drivestation needs a firmware update - there may have been bugs in the one you purchased.
