Question about Ricoh Cameras

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Ricoh Caplio R5 which appears to be working normally in all areas except that when you switch it on, in both camera and video mode, there is no image on the screen and if you make an exposure, it still makes all the correct noises etc but obviously there is no captured images. The lens etc motorises into the correct position and the lens cover retracts. I have been through and selected the default settings where possible, but I was wondering if there was something that should be switched on or off that I haven't done. I have two small boys which may explain a lot !!! Otherwise it is obviously something more serious. I would appreciate any help. many thanks, Joanne Carradice

    Kind regards,

    Hello again,

No, the image that is captured is just a black blank image, and I have already restored all defaults and still no joy.

Are you able to use the screen while going over the cameras settings but noting when trying to take a picture etc? Or is the screen blank at all times?

Have you tried hooking it to the tv to see if anything comes up?

you should have a reset or restore defaults in the settings somewhere.

The Screen might be turned off for shooting, if you still take a picture you might see the picture in the camera if you go the preview mode.

Some cameras have this as a powersaving feature so the screen is turned off.

Unless you have something infront of the camera lens, its definitely a hardware issue, possibly the lens has a problem, Are you in or outside of warranty?

I can direct you to a few camera repair shops for a free repair estimate if you are in the USA.

The Photo's are currently stored on the cameras internal memory, you'll need to transfer them to the card using the camera's menu options.

Failing that, plug the camera into your PC and switch on, a box should appear asking you which programme would you like to access the new device with.

Select the folder option, then click on and open any folders therein, one will be the camera memory the other the card memory.

Hi

The fact that the lines started appearing when you deleted images from the Ricoh Caplio R5 is probably coincidental.

It sound as if the problem is a faulty image sensor (sometimes incorrectly called the CCD or CMOS sensor, depending on what type).

If it's under warranty, contact Ricoh and have them repair it.
