Question about D-Link DGL-4500 Wireless Router

1 Answer

I'm trying to turn the wireless function on my D-Link DGL-4500 Wireless Router. I go to Basic > Wireless then check the turn on wireless radio button (put in the setting and all that) then hit Save Settings. At this point I lose connection to the router and the settings I've changed don't save.. The router then re-connects the network, I log back in and nothing has changed.. wireless is still off. I have the latest firmware, the wireless used to work, it's just I turned it off when my family went away as everything I use is wired direct. Now they are coming back and it won't come back on. It's my router, just it will be a nuisance for them if they can't access the network from their laptops, Playstations etc. Please help before I go insane haha.

Network works fine. The computer I'm on is running on the network as I type. I can use the internet and play Xbox online, do anything I would normally do, just only through the cable. I don't if there is an issue with router itself and if someway I can restore it back to factory settings.. then I can just start over. I just can't turn on the wireless funtion on the router itself

    So to answer your questions:
    1) yes it can go online
    2) it's not the adapter i'm having the issue with, more the router
    3) and Vista

    Thanks :)

Other factors that you may consider when you are not able to view any available wireless network:

a. Switch for the wireless adapter is turned off
b. Distance between the wireless router and computer
c. Possible wireless interferences

Connecting to the Wireless Network

For Windows XP Service Pack 1:

1. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
2. Click on the Advanced tab.
3. Please delete all the preferred networks then click on OK.
4. Right click on the Wireless icon again and click on View Available Wireless Networks.
5. Please select your network and click on Connect. If you have Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) or Wi-fi Protected Access (WPA) enabled on the router, it will ask you for the network key. Please type in the Network Key and then confirm it.
6. Make sure not to enable IEEE and then click on Connect.

For Windows XP Service Pack 2:

1. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer. Then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
2. Click on the Change Advanced Settings.
3. Click on the Wireless Networks tab remove all the preferred networks then click on OK.
4. Right click on the Wireless icon then click on View Available Wireless Networks.
5. Select your network and click on Connect.
6. If you have Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) or Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) enabled on the router, it will ask you for the network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect.

For Windows Vista:

1. Click Start then select Connect To.
2. Connect to a network window will show up.
3. Select your wireless network and click Connect.
4. It will ask you for a network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect.

Note: You may use the wireless utility of your wireless adapter in connecting to the wireless network but you need to clear "Use Windows to configure my wireless networks" on the Wireless Networks tab.

We hope that the above steps provided would help resolve the problem. If the steps above did not work, we will need to get some additional details from you to be able to assist you further. I have summarized my questions below:

1. Can your computer go online when it is hardwired to the router?
2. What wireless adapter are you using?
3. What is the operating system of your computer?

I just bought a D link dgl 4500 router and it works fine most of the time. Tonight and one other night before it will reset my wireless network almost every five minuets. I have reset both the modem and...

Make sure you have the latest firmware as this might help with your dropped connections. Also try to make a DHCP Reservation for each computer connected to your network (p. 32 in the User Manual), as that can also help prevent dropped connections.

Download the latest firmware ver. 1.23NA to your local computer. Connect your DGL-4500 router via a wired connection (ethernet) to your computer and install the firmware update following instructions in the user manual.

Turn the router off.
Use an Ethernet cable to connect the network-port on the cable-modem to the 'WAN' or 'Internet' port on the router.
Use another Ethernet cable to connect the network-port on your computer to one of the 4 'LAN' ports on the router.

If you don't see any devices connected in the DHCP client list on the router interface even when you are sure of the devices being connected, only a firmware update or a re-flashing of firmware can help. You can find the latest firmware available on the d-link support site. You can verify the model and version numbers and download the corresponding firmware. This is only fix.

D-link DGL-4500 is not accessing my dsl modem

make sure the dsl modem is in bridge mode. you do this by connecting directly to the modem then accessing modem configuration page. after doing this connect the way everything was before. now go to router admin page, then setup tab at the top, then choose internet, manual setup. in the place where its says my internet connection is select PPPoE. then put in your dsl username, password and etc. save settings. this should fix the problem
