Xbox 360 elite is hard wired. says we must have an ethernet cable, which we do. any suggestions

1st step turn all items off Router and Xbox. Unplug all cables and double check them and make sure in good condition, no tears or kinks in it. Plug both ends back in to the router and the Xbox. Power the router back on and let it run for 2 minutes. Boot the Xbox up and go through the setup menu and make sure the Wired connection is selected. Also I know with the PS3 a DMZ selection is suggested. How you would do this is 1st go into your router usually by going into your internet explorer and enter the IP address for your router usually 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.1.1. You will need info such as IP Address for your router or your Main IP Address, as well as DNS numbers 1 and 2, as well as possibly need Subnet Mask which will all be displayed in your router main page. You can go to gaming and administration. Use an IP address that is outside of your router DHCP range such as if your router DHCP range is 192.168.2.100-.149 you would want to place a static IP in your Xbox such as 192.168.2.150 for example. If you place your Xbox at a static IP such as I explained here you can then enter the same IP from your Xbox into your DMZ in the router. I hope this helps you out. good luck and happy gaming.

My new 250gb xbox 360 is not connecting to the internet

If it is a new Slim you need to have a wireless router... but if it is an Arcade, Pro, or Elite you need to have a cord connecting to the Xbox to the internet router.

How to connect xbox 360 to the internet with laptop

I'm not sure if you can connect an Xbox 360 to the internet with a lap top. What I would do, is get a router (guessing that you already have one). But if you don't, it's basically a splitter for Ethernet cords. You plug the router into the Modem (the box that makes the internet), buy an Ethernet cord, plug it from the router to your Xbox and you should have internet. Or, you can get a wireless router, and get a network adapter for your Xbox to get internet wireless. But I don't think you can just get internet from your laptop.

Can't connect to xbox live, connected to network and internet, but as soon as test goes to xbox live connection comes up with updates needed, click continue to update, the green bar goes so far after about...

Try plugging the xbox straight into the modem and not the router, if it still happens, reset your modem and router and try again. Xbox live can be sketchy at times. Also the traffic to xbox live because of the holidays can sometimes screw with the updating and such.

WiFi setup

You still need a wireless adapter for your Elite, contrary to the name it doesn't have one built in so it is not that Elite. Once you add a wireless adapter all you have to do is go to the System blade and select Networking. Once there select edit network settings and have the adapter search for wireless networks and select the one you wish to connect to. You should be good to go but if your NAT settings come back as strict then you should look into setting up your router for Port Forwarding. It is easy to do just go here http://live.tommccann.net/ best of luck.
