Question about Televison & Video

SOME RENTAL DVD'S MOSTLY EUROPEAN "FOREIGN" DO NOT WORK. SHOWS 'INVALID DISC' AFTER SOME READING AND WAITING TIME, THEN SOMETIMES FREEZES. I HAVE ALREADY SET TO "REGION FREE" DISCS USING THE 2960 CODE BUT THIS DOESN'T HELP EITHER ANY REGION HAS SAME PROBLEM. HAS SOMETHING BEEN ADDED TO SOME RENTAL DVD'S TO PROTECT THEM MAKING IT INCOMPATIBLE WITH OUR DVD PLAYER? WE LIVE IN AUSTRALIA AND THIS HAS JUST STARTED TO HAPPEN OVER THE LAST MONTH OR SO. Sometimes a dvd can be ejected manually but mostly the unit must be partially dismantled but if you try to do that you will invalidate the warranty - at only 5 months old it will be the responsibility of the supplier/retailer to cure the problem. I suggest you re-read the instructions and then contact the supplier without delay.
Then you should contact the dvd rental company and tell them what is happening.

Coby DVD shows Invalid Disc HELP PLEASE

Did you make the disk if you made the disk your computer has to give it a digital signature so the DVD player can read it if you're using a regular DVD then I would very carefully using rubbing alcohol and Q tip clean the actual laser I would be very careful doing this if too much rubbing alcohol is on the Q tip it will ruin the laser you can also try resetting the DVD player by taking out the battery and unplugging it from any power source and leave it that way for at least 20 seconds to a minute if that doesn't work you might have something else wrong

The DVD player has problems midway thru a DVD

Hi I am Vortash there is nothing actually wrong with your machine ?.. the problem is rental dvds are not shall we say treated with reverence by many of the subscribers to video shops ?.. Disks get damaged and scratched and dvd players that are in need of cleaning on the lens of the laser especially tend to ripple at the slightest imperfection as do some with critical read settings .
I remember when the DVDs and cd first came out they where seen as indestructible RUBBISH they are as sensitive as the old vinyl record or rather the laser is .. if it has a damaged disc it has to work twice as hard trying to pick out the information when most of the time it is being deflected off the area that it is supposed to read . It is true 90% of the time they ignore some damage but 10% of the time they just can't cope .. Get a good dvd cd cleaner and while the disc is cleaning the machine you clean the Video DVD with the solution and cloth provided ... hope this helps Regards Vortash

Disk rotating and a message "invalid disk"

you can try manually cleaning the laser lens ( gently wipe , do not press down hard , it is suspended by fine wires ) using a q-tip and a drop of that cleaning solution you got with the laser lens disc. ( fluff another q-tip a little ) then dry wipe it with another q-tip and try a disc.
you can look at the laser lens and see if you see the laser come on also to determine if that is working ( do not look directly into the laser ! )
if the laser works but it still does not read discs after cleaning it manually , then there is a problem with the focus coil on the laser or the signal board is bad

Try using Sony +R discs. or +RW's are good, any brand as long as they are +'s. For some reason alot of +R discs brands will not work, I wait and just get Sony +R or the +RW's on sale and stock up and I have no more troubles. Mine is the 05MU. The ZU is a little strange with the RW but will still record. Hope this helps.

Some models of PIONEER cd players had radio frequency problems that caused them to work on and off. Are you near any radio or braodcast towers? Poorly shielded power supplies cause this as well. A weak laser diode in the pick-up assembly in model runs could be the problem. You might want to Google the model number and see if this is common for these units.
