    Hi Tim,

Have tried 802.11/b only and this one none of the laptops can see/connect to. I keep picking up something about private networks in all of this that doesn't seem to make sense. I am hoping someone can tell me what to look at on the Toshiba's as far as setting go that might interfere- I will go update drivers, but one of the laptops is like less than 6 months old- it is running Vista windows version 6.06.001- I have disabled most of the stupid security protocols on the Vista as I could do nothing before when I got it because of all of the protocols. But the other Toshiba is like 4 years old and running XP with service pack 3.

Thanks Tim, pls read comments- would like to know what I should tweak to make Toshibas work w/ router.

Hello there, you say you have tried all modes and settings so I assume you have tried turning the wireless router down to 802.11/b only correct? Some Toshiba laptops' wireless card have compatibility and connectivity issues with newer mixed mode networks. Also, verify you are running the latest drivers for the wireless cards you have in the Toshibas by either doing a windows update or gong to Toshiba's site and going to the support / downloads section and looking up your model number.

Since the HPs connect just fine you know it's not the access point / router causing the problem, it's incompatibility on the Toshiba side. If you still can't get it resolved after trying the above steps give Toshiba's customer service a call to see if they know of any issues with this router. Their number is 800-631-3811 I believe.

Of course to do the windows update, directly connect to the router via a network / ethernet cable.

Hope this helps!

Thanks

Tim

Im having problems connecting to the internet after i got a netgear wireless dual band router to my pannaway modem

First check that router light is blinking. If not, need to repair or replace.

If light is blinking, you need to reset it. There will be a reset button back side of your router, press and hold it for 30 seconds. Restart your router and reconfigure.

Also check that you had enabled wireless setting. Ask here if problem still occurring http://www.vtechsquad.com/wireless-router-support/

My HP G60 laptop with Vista won't connect to Netgear router

Usually there are 2 types of wireless connections, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Your laptop may not be able to connect to one of these connections, so it may be incompatible with your router. You can try buying a USB networking card (no more than $20). It will plug into one of your USB ports and should allow you to connect to your router. Hope this helps!

Just having the wireless router without connecting it to cable modem or DSL modem will not allow you to get onto the Internet. The wireless card in your computer/laptop will allow you to get onto the Internet at a free public WiFi hot spot location such as McDonalds, Star Bucks, at the airport.
Also the wireless card in your computer/laptop may allow you to connect into an unsecured wireless router from your neighbors, if their wireless router is within range of your computer/laptop but without their permission to use their Internet, it is considered stealing from your neighbor. They have a set download limit from their Internet Service Provider and by you connecting to their ISP you may cause them to exceed their download limit and they would be charged additional costs for every Mega byte over their limit.

Can you help me configure my netgear router? I cant seem to connect to http://192.168.0.1

you can try typing in your browser address bar www.routerlogin.net then press enter this should bring up your routers setting wirelessly but this will only happen if your laptop detects your routers wireless network.

if you can connect your laptop to your router using ethernet cable you can go to the command prompt then type in IPCONFIG then enter this should pull up your ipaddress and the default gateway is your routers Graphical User Interface where you can go and change the settings, your Netgear default gateway should be 192.168.1.1 this is the default gateway that should show in command prompt for netgear routers.

If you are going to use wireless make sure in the router the wireless capability of your router is enabled ^_^

your settings depend on what your Internet service provider requires you for settings
