JL Audio 13w7 & 1000/1 Amp Settings

I have a JL 13w7 sub wired in series with a JL 1000/1 amp...was wondering what were good settings for maximum bass? I know JL has a tutorial on their site but it doesn't exactly tell me what level should be what on the amp, or what should be on or off on the amp.

I looked up the correct way to wire my JL 13.5W7 1.5. Therefore it said to wire it in parrallel. I understand this will put it at .75 ohm. As I start to turn it up it sounds great, very loud but once the...

1000/1v2 Class D Monoblock Subwoofer Amplifier Specifications:
  1000/1v2

Rated Power:
1000 W RMS @ 1.5 ohm - 4 ohm (11V-14.5V)

THD at Rated Power:
<0.05% @ 4 ohm

S/N Ratio:
>95dB below rated power (A-weighted, 20 Hz - 20 kHz noise bandwidth)

Frequency Response:
5 Hz - 250 Hz (+0, -1dB)

Damping Factor:
>500 @ 4 ohm / 50 Hz

According to the chart your amp is only stable down to 1.5 Ohms, so running at .75 Ohms the noise you are hearing is the amp clipping (running more power than it can handle at low ohms)
I would suggest wiring it in series, or you could adjust the gain on the amp until the popping goes away.

Hope this helps.

JL 13w7 & 1000/1 Settings

There is no "perfect" setting that can be placed in a manual. It's all done by ear. Your settings will vary depending on the vehicle you are in, the type of enclosure you have, the type of music you listen too, how much voltage your deck put's out. There are many variables, but I can try to give you a basic guide.

First of all you need to know your enclosure. If you have a ported enclosure tuned in the mid to low 30's you may want to set the low pass to around 70-80 hz with your sub sonic set at 30 hz. this will give you the higher bass frequency you need for the loud bass you want, and protect the sub from going too far below the tuned frequency of the enclosure, and losing it's composure.

As far as the gain, and bass boost are concerned, you just have to adjust them by ear. First adjust the radio volume to normal listening levels, by that I mean as loud as it can go without the speakers in the car sounding like ****. Now you adjust the gain first. slow turn the gain control, carefuly watching and listening to the sub.. Adjust the gain to the point of the woofer getting a lil sloppy then back it down a bit until the sound is clean again. Now do the same with the bass boost. if there is a bass boost frequency adjustment, set that as close to the tuned frequency of the box as you can.

If you are in a sealed box the adjustments are a bit easier, and are all about taste. Adjust the radio as described before, and put on your favorite song. Next start udjust thing lowpass frequency to taste, not too high tho, try not us higher than 100 hz in your sub's for better sound. Sub sonic is not quite as important in a sealed box, as there is much less danger of the sub losing control.

Well good luck, and hope this helps!

Amp assistence

The jl100/1v2 puts out the same amount of power between 1.5 - 4 ohm loads so you dont have to really set up anything to match your sub- wire the coils in parrallel and plug it in- set infrasonic(subsonic) filter at 15 hz(lowest) set crossover piont at close to 80 hz set gain about half-or if you kow the voltage from your source unit match the source voltage to the amps input voltage setting-it should pound like a champ with no problems

I have two Jl 13.5s w7 they only pop

There should be no need for a series connection. The outputs on the amp are parallel inside the amp, requiring you to only connect the speakers separately to the amp. With two 4 ohm speakers, you will achieve a 2 ohm output [(4x4)/(4+4)] and be within tolerance.

The Low Ohm light will also illuminate in the event of a short. Check your speaker wiring, looking for any positive leads touching negative leads or for any leads that may be grounded to the chassis of the vehicle.

500/1 settings to run jl13w6 v2 d-4

Just had a look at both amp and sub on the JL Audio website. The amp runs from 1.5-4ohms. 4ohms at 14.5V. The sub is running dual 4 ohms coils. That's what the D-4 means. So should be an easy set up. The amp has two mono outputs, so one for each coil. It looks like the perfect wattage to run the sub real nice.

Complicated JL Audio Amp

1. set the amp LP filter frequency at about 80hz and mode/slope to 24db.
2. set the amp gain as recommended in the manual.
3. set the subsonic to on and to about 25hz
4. ste the bass eq to off!
5. set the input voltage to low and signal sensing to off
6. Fine tune by ear.

Popping

If you Wire the 13 w7 in parallel you get 0.75 ohms which this amp is incapable of handling, that's why your speaker is popping. Be carefull cause this setup could ruin both your amp and sub. You have to wire that sub in series so that the amp "sees" a 3 ohm load which it's best suited for.
