Good anti virus programs are not free
cookies you can remove by going to the search engine ( google ,google chrome ,explorer etc) settings and clicking on cookies and / or add on removal
I personally use kaspersky anti virus program and find it to do a very good job ( have up to 5 pc units for the price of one )
it will do a part scan or full scan ( what ever you set ) and cleans out the system
other things that you can do is to go to the installed programs in the control panel and uninstall programs that you rarely/never use
uninstall pc cleaner programs as they are a waste of time and clog the hard drive
next go to the disc manager and defrag the hard drive
if you want a fast pc then consider installing a solid state hard drive ( cost around $1.00 per gig ) or have it done by an accredited pc shop
check if you have any spare ram slots and if so install another ram card to double the ram as a slow memory is because there is not enough ram for what is required ( computers use ram to shift data around as they follow the program so the more ram the quicker they can shift that data
find yourself a good IT geek shop and talk with them ( not a retail shop but a genuine computer shop)

Hello Nancy, There are many reasons a computer can slow down. Here are some maintenance procedtures you should do on a regular basis. You should defrag your hard disk ona regular basis to keep your computer up to speed. Many of these tasks can be automated with the scheduling features in Windows. Check for and install any operating system updates. Make sure you have "Automatic Updates" turned on. Run a full system anti-virus and anti-spyware scan. Make sure your anti-virus and anti-spyware software are up to date. If you don't have these on your computer, there are many good free anti-virus software. Do a Google search for free anti-virus and anti-spyware. Also, clear the cache on your browser. Delete all history and cookies and temp folders. There are also websites such as http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ that does free online scans. You should also stop unwanted progams from stsrting. To do this go to Start menu, enter msconfig, and click OK. Click startup and uncheck startup programs you don't use. Then click services and uncheck services you don't use. If after doing this and something stops working that you need, again bring up startup and services and re-check the ones you want to run.

Run the spyware scan and remove all detected spywares.
after that i suggest running a full system virus scan using Kaspersky, bitdefender, or any other anti virus you may have.
In my opinion, A good anti-virus is AVAST.A good spyware program is Spybot.Malware I recommend Malwarebytes. 1. Scan your computer with Spybot then restart, 2. Now scan your computer with Malwarebytes and delete whatever comes up. restart 3. Now try scanning your computer with the anti-virus protection. FREE SPYWARE Download Spybot Search & Destroy. Restart computer, then run Spybot to see what spyware comes up, AND DELET IT.
FYI---Virus Protection-- 2 programs of virus protection will conflict with each other and will actually cancel out the protection. SO just download one.

There are alot of $ anti-virus and Internet security programs out there-ie: Norton, McAfee, Panda, Bitdefender. If you would like to pay $ then get ***Kaspersky***-- 2010 , I feel that is the best for your money.
REMEMBER TO KEEP UP THE DAILY MAINTENANCE ON ALL OF YOUR COMPUTERS.! Last Resort, would be a Reformat.Use your recovery Cd's. Viruses normally corrupt your computer. You probably will need to do a Reformat. Be sure and do a Back-up First., because you will loose everything.Restore will not remove Viruses.Best way would be Reformat. If you know how to do a back-up, save all your documents, pictures and music. If not take it to a reputable computer shop to take of this. Open web browser type spyware remover/freeware and enter to go there to pick the one you want to install to remove your problem.
