Forced to Shutdown on boot-up. Messed by wrong usage of Combofix

Brand new Acer Aspire 4930G. Got messed up because I 'combofix' without reading the instructions carefully.
Now I need to invoke the eRecovery Partition to restore the laptop to factory settings. How do I do that as all I have now on bootup is a screen that gives me only one choise i.e. to 'shutdown'

I guess the root is to press ,f2. on boot-up. where do I go from there? or is there a nother way to access the eRecovery partition to automatically get the laptop re-instated to factory settings.

Thank you
Alan

Drivers for Acer products may be found on the Acer support page ( http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/ ). Search for the product and download the drivers. Alternatively, the factory installed drivers and applications can be re-installed by using Acer eRecovery.
Follow these steps:

  1. Press ALT and F10 to start Acer eRecovery.
Please note: It will be prompt to enter or create a password. This password will be required to use eRecovery in the future. Forgetting this password will require the use of the recovery discs to reformat the system.
  2. In the next window, select Restore or Recovery. This will vary from system to system.
  3. Choose Reinstall Applications/Drivers
  4. Choose Install
  5. Click on Windows on the left side of the page.
  6. Choose driver or applications.
  7. Choose the item to install
  8. On the right, click the install link and follow the prompts.
  9. The system may restart when installation is complete. If it does not restart, manually shutdown and restart the computer.
If a set of recovery discs was created, or received when the system was purchased, the factory installed drivers and applications may be reinstalled from that media as well. Start the computer and insert the System CD (or the first disc) and browse the disc and choose which item to install.

When i opened an e-mail a virus got into my computer. Now the internet is not working, a box keeps popping up saying "Network has been disconnected", about every 10 seconds. What should I do?

Download this tool called combofix and run it once, it should take care of the virus. It will use the Windows recovery console to undo the registry-changes made by the virus

The download link is also on the page. Once its removed make sure that you install an internet security suite. My recommendation would be Kaspersky

Hi! Try uninstalling and reinstalling the program you are using. If this doesn't work I assume your pc might be infected by a malware.
You may scan your pc with combofix. Just copy+paste the link below your browser to download combofix.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/anti-virus/combofix
After doing this, you may try to scan your pc for viruses. You can download a free antivirus from here: www.freeav.com.
Then try to reinstall your program again.

Hope this helps. Thank you for using fixya, have a nice day!

Brand new Acer PC was working fine but now it will not read or recognize any cd's.

Try using a boot cd during startup. It's possible your CD ROM software is messed up. If you can boot up with a live cd for example (Knoppix) or a windows xp cd then you might need to reload your cd rom drivers.

Spyware

If you can get the unit to boot windows you should get and run a program called combofix, if you google it you will find it at majorgeeks website. This will get rid of those programs. If you press F8 before windows tries to load you will be greeted by a boot list, you should try last known working configuration and again run combofix.
