I built a new system to put XP pro on and mostly it has been a pretty good
install. However, when I shut down I am getting a box with the following
message, "pcprofiler.exe - .dll initialization failed.............the
application failed to initialize because windows is shutting down." The
system shut down ok and I don't get an event message error. I have
searched everywhere on my HD and can't even find the file to see what it is.
Microsoft KB doesn't have anything either. Could this have anything to do
with the fact that I haven't activated yet? I am trying to get everything up
and running before I commit to the install. Any help would be appreciated.

you can try to see what it is:
Start->Run, enter in "cmd" (don't include quotes for
anything in these directions) and hit enter.
At the command window, enter "cd \" and hit enter.
Next, type "dir /a /s pcprofiler.exe" and hit enter.
This will search the drive that XP is installed on for
the file. If it finds the file, note what directory it
is in, it might contain the name of whatever product
installed it.
The second thing to try is the following:
Start->Run, type in "msconfig" and hit enter (same deal
with the quotes...)
On the new window, click the Startup tab. Look through
the Startup Item and Command entries for something with
pcprofiler in it. If/when you find them, uncheck the box
next to those entries. This will prevent them from
loading on the next boot, and hopefully should get rid of
your message.
