Question about Creative Labs Zen Touch MP3 Player

1 Answer

Heya Guys,

Im having a major problem at the moment with my zen touch and its driving me insane. Ok so here is what I have done so far...

After not having used the Zen for a while I decided its was time to load some songs on to it and give it a listen. So I loaded the instillation disc on my new laptop which has Vista and even after many problems doing that I succeeded then...instead of using media source I wanted to use wmp which i think is wmp11 the latest one and this did not detect the player so i went to the creative site and downloaded the lastest firmware for my zen. I then ran the firmware program and this cleared everything etc etc. FOR SOME REASON my Zen is now in recovery mode listing whether i wish to

1. clean up
2.format all
3.reload firmware

AND WONT TURN OFF!! argggg!!

I hope this isnt the end of my zen and what am i able to do to get it running again on my laptop with vista and wmp11?? If someone knows the answer that would be super dooper awesome.

There is a small hole on the side that you stick a pin in to reset

My zen's screen wont turn on

i'm assuming you pushed the reset button at the bottom already. does it seem like it is booting (does the hard drive spin, the head move?) if nothings moves or spins i'm assuming you have a defective logic board. there is a creative zen repair guide that shows you how to do that, the part is on ebay.

Creative zen touch keeps falling over!

Sounds like the hard drive is getting flakey. They are easy to replace if you are good with a screwdriver and are not afraid to work on stuff like that. You can also put larger capacity hard drives in them.
There are sites all over the web that give info on upgrading Creative Zen hard drive players. I have a Zen Xtra 30GB that has issues too, but before I opted to replace it with an iPod, I had a whole list of sites that dealt with hacking those players. The drives are easy to replace and they are just standard notebook hard drives. Mine has a Toshiba drive in it I think. I just read on another site that you will need to use this drive Hitachi 1.8" Travelstar model HTC424020F7AT00. I am not sure if they still make that drive but you can try finding a drive that has similar specs.
If replacing the drive doesn't work you may just have to break down and get a new player. The iPod classics are a good capacity player, and the price has come down a good bit. Plus the warranty is a year as opposed to Creative's 90 day.

Cheers and best wishes

Creative Zen Touch stuck in "recovery mode"

Hi! I think you should try this (i've already tried it and it works):
1- Unplug your Zen from your Computer.
2-Turn off your Zen (if you can't do it, press the "Reset" button)
3- BEFORE turning on your Zen, press your "Play" button and hold it while you turn on.
4-When a format menu appears, select the "Format All" option (you'll loose all your Zen data).
5-When the format menu reapears, select the "Reboot" option and listo! You have your Zen as new and should not have problem. Good luck!

Have you tried to load the firmware? First you'll need to download the firmware to your PC from Creative's website: Click here. After you've downloaded it, connect your Zen via USB to your PC and open the firmware icon, then click "Upgrade."
