Question about Estate TGDX640JQ Gas Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer ran all night now no heat

I have an Estate TGDX640JQ Gas Dryer (Estate-Whirlpool). my wife noticed yesterday that the dryer was still running this morning hours later than when she turned it on the night before. The timer didn't move as it usually does and I noticed there was no heat in which to dry the clothes. Once changed to a different cycle the timer worked and the dryer does run and tumbles the clothing but, no heat. Do you have any suggestions and, if so, is this worth repairing?

After taking apart the whole dryer and checking the burner assembly i found no burned out or fouled out parts. I put the dryer back together and left the back panel off pluged it back up and started it up the burner came on for no more than 1 minute then went off. At that time I removed both thermostats from the burner housing but still attached to the wires and started it again it stayed on. So the answer is u need to change the thermostats. To check and make sure just pull off the back of the dryer an remove the thermostats from the burner housing then start this sill be tour answer and the piece is about 25.00 good luck an God bless.

SOURCE: No heat

What I learned is that the fuse needed to be replaced on the dryer. The back had to be opened in order to reach any elements, but the service man replaced the fuse and my dryer now works again.

Thanks for the suggestions.

mcwilliams if you pull the over off the front of the dryer at the bottom you can see the gas burner assy. Put the dryer on time dry and start the dryer, you should see a glow from the ignitor, then hear a click, then the heat come on. In the auto dry mode, the timer advances along with the dryness level. No heat, No timer advancing. If you don't see a glow, there should be a thermosat on the heater can, see if it is tripped. If so if it is resetable, reset then try again. You may have a bad ignitor.
