Did you try to reboot?
Do you have an optical mouse? (if yes: is the red light on?
(Then the mouse is recognized and you must configure your mouse options)
Did you try to connect your USB mouse to another connector?
Or if PS2 connector: Turn of the pc and connect the mouse and power on.

Help us help you by posting your system specifications.
You may have a virus or spyware, have you scanned for both recently?
Try your mouse in a different USB port. If it was plugged into the back, try the front ports. If it was in front, try the back ports.
Have you installed any other USB devices recently? Any new hardware or software? Any Microsoft "updates"?
