You may have broken the power button. I hit my power button too hard one day and broke it, and it would not stay on for more than a second or two before turing off. I took it apart and super-glued the button back into place. The way it was mounted was very flimsy. If your power button is loose, i'd say thats the issue. If not, disregard.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Sounds like a bad hard drive to me. Take out the hard drive completely from the laptop and boot up with the windows xp cd and it should go past the blinking cursor. At that point you know you'll need another hard drive.
