There are several possibilities. 1. replace the ram, make sure that its a good working ram module. 2. review all your work from system board to power supply. 3. try running it temporarily without the cmos battery. 4. check your monitor. 5. check your VGA. 6. retry and retry.

Computer loses power soon as the power button is released

Hey Tina and thanks for using fixya, there can be 2 possibilities. 1 your power supply may have blown during the power serge, if that is so then your problems are minimal, switching out a power supply is cheap and easy, you can pick up a standart power supply that supports both ATA and SATA motherboards and just takes 4 or 5 screws to replace. 2. *********** board may have suffered damage from the serge, in most cases this happens with a lightning strike. I would take your machine to a reputable computer shot and have it tested should not cost more that 10 or 20 bucks for the tech to test your board this will take the guess work out of the diagnosis. if the mother board test good replace the power supply here is a generic link that shows you how to do it. hope this helps and let me know how it went.

Desktop turns off and a flashing red light appears

Sounds like you need to reseat the processor and heat sink, and use some good quality thermal paste.

If a reseat dosent do it, test the power supply, ocasionally they will be bad right out of the box, it is rare, but it happens.

Also check the MoBo connections, and make sure all fans are connected powered up and spinning, people often miss reconnecting something when swapping motherboards.

Hope this helps!!

System wont power on unless mb power connector on mb is reset

by mb pwr connector do you mean the swich on the pc case that you press to turn it on or do you mean the large block connector form the power supply ?

If you mean the case switch then you have a faulty one that is sendinga constant signal and locking up the power supply

Blinking red light at "on" button

Dont panic the date is more than likely fine was the computer off or on during the night. The three flashes is usual joined with 3 beeps chweck that the internal speaker is on. Second there is a small battery on the motherboard. Disconnect the power then take the battery out for twenty seconds then put it back in be gentle taking it in and out the reconnect the power then see if the unit boots if not. At worst you can take the hard drive out of the computer and put it in another and retrieve the data.
Hope this helps :-)
