Question about Compaq Evo N620c Notebook
Screen is black when power is on and does not responed to windows commands, I even hooked it up to docking station but still get the black screen on an external monitar it won't even power down unless I hold the standbye swicth for a few seconds, I can't even make it into the BIOS menue!!
It could also be a faulty video chip on the motherboard especially if you do not get video output on an external monitor. There should be beep codes when faulty memory is present or a faulty processor or processor fan. Laptops do not use power supplies rather mosfets soldered on the motherboard and an external power transformer. If the transformer is bad then the little green light on the "power brick" will not light up and you would get no response at all from the computer. Faulty video will cause the system not to boot to bios or post.

Remove and refit clock battery, it's next to the modem card.

May be faulty processor, loose memory stick or a faulty power supply.

Tips for a great answer:
To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or
a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from
it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white
letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to completion. Then reboot machine.
If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.
In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when the options appear.
In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.
