Question about Jenn-Air JGS8750 Gas Kitchen Range
I have a maytag freestanding range that is probably about 10 years old. It as electronic ignition and recently the oven has been constantly lighting and flame going out and then relighting again. Happens every 2 seconds to 30 seconds as it is preheating and probably every minute or two afterwards while cooking. Using other gas appliances in the house makes no difference. It also makes a weird purring or puttering sound that is more noticed when you first turn it on. It also mellows out and doesn't sound as if the flame is getting blown out and runs more normal when you turn a top burner on while oven is operating.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Sing, sounds like you got one of your burner valve switches wet and it's grounding out. Try taking a hair dryer, pull of the burner knobs and going lightly over the control valves. The switches are mounted to these valves. It just may need to be dried out. If this doesn't work, one of the switches shorted out. Catriver..post back.

Mike, I think your problem is in the ignitor itself. Turn the gas off and see how many amps it's drawing during the bake mode. It needs between 3.2 and 3.6 amps to keep that valve open. Then ohm out the temperature probe, appox 1132ohms at room temp. You can see if your electronic control will go into a quick test by pressing and holding the cancel and broil buttons together for 3 seconds. First kill the power to the range and power back up before entering. When quick test appears you can check the bake relay by pressing bake. The relay should activate and 1 should be displayed. Same thing for convection bake except the fan should run too. Catriver...post back.

This usually is an indication of a bad igniter. If this is the standard glow type igniter, it could appear as if it is working, but may not be providing enough current to open the gas valve. This is a safety feature on gas ovens. The gas valve requires a current potential of .32 to .37 amps through the igniter before it will open and allow gas to flow. This prevents gas leakage if the igniter fails to light. The reason your broiler works is probably due to the fact that the broiler gets used less and the igniter is probably in better condition. You can test this theory, if you like, by swapping the igniter for the bake and broil burners to see if the symptoms change. Or, you can simply just replace the bake igniter with a new one. Make sure you secure the power before attempting, though. You shouldn't have to turn off the gas for this. Chances are that's all it is. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: Igniter continuously clicks
I had this problem. It was caused by the burner "thinking" the flame had turned off--it was clicking because it was sparking to re-start the flame from the gas. I was able to fix it by tightening a flat, thin nut at the top of the burner.

The most common reason a gas oven won't heat is a bad igniter. It is located near the valve and burner under the oven bottom. You can usually see it glow orange just before the fire lights. Most GE ranges take a cylindrical igniter part #WB2X9154 or #WB13K21 rectangular igniter.
