Free downloads of expensive software usually lead you to websites filled with viruses.
Open-source software is built from the ground up to copy the features of expensive tools like Microsoft Office Word.
To save money I've used one of the open-source office suites, LibrerOffice, that you can get for free by visiting:

I use LibreOffice Writer in place of Microsoft Word all the time. It looks like Word and does 99% of the things Word will do. Plus you'll get their spreadsheet like Excel, presentation software like Powerpoint and a graphics drawing program too!
The LibreOffice tools all read and write Microsoft Office files too. Just be sure you save your work in the Microsoft Office format if you need to share them with people using Microsoft Office.
Try OpenOffice. It is free.
