Misfires are typically a result of a few things`:

Bad rocker cover gasket & spark plug seals leaking oil into the spark chamber which fouls plugs. Easy to check, simply remove a spark plug and see if it is dry or covered or damp with oil. second would be faulty wires, change both the plugs and wires. Check all vacuum hoses to see that they are tight, no cracks, leaks etc. There could also be an issue with your throttle body. Is your check engine light on, if so, obtain a scan tool and check for the code that appears.

I have a malfunctioning Tachometer. How it is fixed? What's the consequence of a malfunctioning tachometer? Thanks for your help.

1999 chrysler cirrus tachometer works right then will drop to zero and not work

Sounds like the tach is either bad and should be replaced or there is a short or loose connection to or from it. Check the wires in and out of it. If it's in the dash, though, it won't be easy to get to. Good luck.

the only clue I have here is skips
skips must mean misfire.
there are over 50 causes of misfire.
bad spark plugs tops the list.

car is old , needs a major tuneup

they to forget all that other stuff, and elaborage
what skips means.
i guess never cold does it skip.

TACHOMETER DROPS TO ZERO THEN BACK TO NORMAL AND CAR SOUNDS LIKE IT IDILING WHAT CAUSES IT

Electrical arching in the ignition secondary circuit can cause this as well as a fault ignition module.

My 1998 2.2 litre gmc sonoma it bringing up a frequent misfire code when hooked up to a computer...i changed plugs, wires, the fuel filter has been changed and 2 sensors as well...it takes a long time to get...

Possible failed fuel injector if the code is for one cylinder only. Multiple cylinder misfires can be caused by low fuel press. Another possibility is a vacuum leak at intake runners.

Tach. drop's to zero while driving 70 ?

I have had the almost same problem twice. A 'thump', like the engine missed a fire and tach drops. Seems OK after restart. Electrical? Timing chain slip?
Has 135,000 mile. Any clues?

While driving my tachometer keeps dropping to zero.

NOT SURE BUT IT KINDA SOUNDS LIKE EITHER A BAD GROUND TO THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE OF A BAD GOUND ON THE ALTERNATOR. ARE YOU HAVING ANY OTHER ELECTRICAL ISSUES OTHER THAN THIS?
