How can I tell if the touchpad is bad or the ERC is bad?
Code f7 started this, I have replaced the touchpad but it did not seem to help. Are there any tricks to installing a touchpad with the ribbon connection?

The E7 fault code is telling you the electronic range control (ERC) is detecting a problem with one or more key on the touchpad. This fault code can be caused by a defective touchpad or the ERC.
To determine which part is bad you need a technician to test the touchpad with an ohm meter. If the touchpad is good the ERC will need to be replaced.

The F7 error code on your oven indicates the touch pad has failed.
To repair it you will need to replace the touch pad which is listed as
a control panel w/keypad in the parts diagram. If you do the
repair yourself, disconnect the power to the oven. Take the 3 screws
out above the door that hold the control panel on to the oven. Pull the
control panel out at the bottom and lift it up, then pull out the top
and drop it down so you can see the back side of the control panel, and
you will see a ribbon connector going from the touchpad to the
electronic oven control (ERC). There is a latch holding the ribbon connector to the ERC, raise the latch to release and pull the ribbon out of the ERC. Replace the part and reverse these instructions to replace the control panel.
This indeed indicates a problem with the Electronic Range Control (ERC). The part number for your range is 769758 and costs about $120. You can find the part at repairclinic.com and have it shipped directly to you for a modest shipping fee. If you need further guidance let me know. I hope this information is helpful.
F1 generally means the touchpad or ERC (Electronic Rage Control) is bad.
This is what Maytag recommends as a simple test that you can do to determine whether the clock or the touchpad are defective when the display reads F1:
- Disconnect power to the range.
- Gain access to the back of the ERC (electronic range control, or "clock").
- Unplug the touch pad ribbon connector from the ERC. This will be a flat wire about 1 ½" to 2" wide.
- Make sure everything is clear and will not short out when power is turned back on. Replace any covers removed to gain access to the ERC.
- Turn the power back on to the range.
- Watch for the F-1 and listen for the beep.
- If you get the F-1 and beep, replace the ERC.
- If after approximately 60 Minutes you do not get the F-1 fault, replace the touch pad.
NOTE: Some models incorporate the touch pad and the clock control as one part so F1 = bad clock control.
I hope this may help you, but it looks like you may have an expensive repair. Double check your wiring just to be sure.
