our one year old monitor comes on, but then goes black after just a few seconds. it is not the graphics card. I hooked it up to another computer and it did the same thing.

If the monitor power light on remains on, either the monitor itself or VGA cable is faulty. Move the cable to see if there is any change on the display. I'd suggest changing the cable - less expensive than a monitor. If not the cable, the monitor is faulty.

- Just wanted to add that the monitor may still be under warranty - check with HP for a replacement.
