Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

When I was installing my printer, I accidentally failed to place the print head into the ink cartridge. When I finally discovered the print head behind something else, I installed it and then intalled the ink cartridges. Now the printer tells me that the cartridges appear to be missing or damaged. They are neither! Is it possible to reset it so that this doesn't hand me up. The printer says it cannot operate with damaged or missing cartridges!

First pull the cartridges, clean the metal contacts with a soft cloth, unplug the printer from everything, uninstall the printer and reinstall it and put everything back together. Sometimes this will reset it. Install the driver before connecting the printer unless otherwise specified in the directions. If this doesn't work, then I need the make and model of the printer to look up anything that I may be missing with this specific printer.

was it was turned off while the lid was open and an ink cartridge was out

If you accidentally turned it of while the lid was open and the ink cartridge was out of place, you can try to push the cartridge gently back to shift it to it's place.

Tip

New Ink Cartridge Not Printing - Solution.

This is a very common problem associated with almost every sort of cartridges with attached print heads such as HP, Lexmark or Dell. The first thing you have to understand is that lack of ink is not the problem, because every cartridge is tested and weighed accurately before it is dispatched from the respective factories.

The most common reason for this type of problem is that the ink head is lacking any ink to feed it. This can be mainly because the cartridges are left flat or maybe upside down for weeks or months before it is being used. So before purchasing one, make sure that the cartridge was not manufactured long before the date of purchase and see to it that it is kept in the correct position in the shop/factory outlet. Also do not stock a cartridge in your home/office every time. Buy it only when you are about to finish the earlier one.

The easiest way to solve this problem is to open up the box and make the cartridge stand in an upright position for a few minutes before using. Now get a paper towel or an useless cloth, fold it twice or thrice and keep the cartridge with the print head down on to it for about 10 minutes or so. This will facilitate ink flow towards the print head and you can see ink coming out of the print head. Finally, install the cartridge on to the printer and you can print a few test pages. These test pages may not be sufficiently bright, but it will get brighter after a few test prints.

Sometimes, IF YOU USE YOUR PRINTER ONLY AT TIMES, the ink may get clogged in the print head thus preventing you from printing again. To remove this clog place the cartridge in about a quarter to half an inch of warm water so that the print head is immersed in it. When you see ink slowly leaking out of the print head take out the cartridge from water and dry it with a SOFT cloth to the tip of the print head. Now get the cartridge installed back to your printer and run the PRINT HEAD CLEANING UTILITY that comes with your printer software. You may have to run it quite a few times before you can restore the printing quality.

CAUTION: Do not keep the print head so long in warm water as it may get destroyed. If it happens so, you should get yourself a new cartridge. You can't repair this stuff further.

Says to replace cartridge which i did but it still wont print.

Why isn't any ink coming out of a new ink cartridge that has just been installed?

The ink cartridge may have a plastic tag covering the print head, which should be removed before the cartridge is installed. If the tag has been removed and the problem persists, there may be air bubbles blocking the print head. In this case, you can try using the print head cleaning function of your printer or leave the ink cartridge in your printer for about an hour to allow the air bubbles to rise to the top of the ink cartridge.

What should be done if the ink cartridge doesn't print or some of the colors don't print?

The nozzle may be clogged with dried ink. The print head should be blotted with a damp lint-free cloth to remove the dried ink. If this does not work, try soaking the ink cartridge in water for a few minutes. To soak the ink cartridge, place it in a Styrofoam cup and fill the cup with water until the ink cartridge is halfway immersed in water. If the ink cartridge does not print after this is done, try soaking the ink cartridge overnight.

Hope it helped...

BROTHER DCP-560CN Not printing enough yellow

This can happen to cartridges with attached print heads such as HP, Lexmark or Dell. All cartridges are weighed and tested before leaving the factory so lack of ink isn't the problem. It usually has to do with the print head of the cartridge not having any ink to feed it. This happens because cartridges are kept flat or upside down for weeks or months before being used and the ink settles away from the print head. The easiest remedy is to open the box and stand the cartridge upright for a few minutes before using. Then get a damp paper towel, fold it into quarters and sit the cartridge print head down onto it. Hold the cartridge down to the damp paper towel for three minutes. This will help pull the ink out of the print heads, priming them and getting them ready to print. Finally, install the cartridge into your printer and print a few test pages.

How can I get dried ink out of my inkjet print head so I can print again? Place the clogged cartridge in about 1/4 - 1/2 inch of warm water for a few minutes. When ink starts to slowly leak out take the cartridge out of the water and dry it using a soft cloth to "Q-tip." Then place it back in your printer and run the print head cleaning utility that comes with your printer software. You may have to run this 2-4 times before printing quality is reestablished. If your print head is destroyed, as can happen, you will have to buy a cartridge and refill that cartridge before it is fully empty

CANON BJC-85 DOES NOT PRINT

Try this to clean the print head;
Canon will hate me for this.

1. Remove ink cartridges.
2. Remove print head.
3. Go to sink or tub (stainless steel, not plastic type), pick up a roll of paper towel on the way.
4. Fold several layers of paper towel and place on flat surface.
5. Run hot water until HOT!
6. Turn hot water back to a dribble.
7. Run the dribbling hot water through print head being careful not to wet the gold contacts.
8.When water running through print head is clear, place print head on paper towel.
9. Repeat number 7 and 8 until no colour shows on paper towel.
10. Gently DAB print head (DO NOT WIPE) inside and out with dry paper towel until dry.
11. I normally replace print head after drying, but you may wish to let it air-dry overnight.
12. Replace print head in printer and install cartridges
13. Start printing.

I do this to all 4 of my Canon printers every 6 months or so.

If any colour fails to print after this process it means your print head probably needs replacing.

Cradle jam after inserting ink cartridge, wont align

May-15-2008
in a HP-PSC-1210, replaced empty HP56 black-inkjet cartridge.
Afterward, printer gave error message AND unable to "dismount" the cartridge.
Finally discovered that an HP57 color-inkjet cartridge had accidentally been mounted/installed. A handyman relative was able to dismount the (wrong) cartridge.

Cradle did not actually jam, though printer would not print.
