What causes a chainsaw to run great until it gets hot. It then shuts off and will not restart?

It looses fire when hot. I checked the fire at the spark plug and no fire. I replaced the spark plug and still no fire. Any suggestions?

Anyways.... your coil is throwing intermittent spark. Which is a sign of a coil going bad. It's basically malfunctioning when it's around severe heat. Don't bang your head against the wall bud, get a new coil assy.

Run non-ethanol fuel in it. It will run 80-180 degrees cooler. Also use fresh fuel and a premium 2 stroke synthetic(does not absorb moisture) oil like echo or husqvarna. Run 40:1 instead of 50:1. That should do it. Good luck.

Testimonial: "Thanks, but oil and fuel type have nothing to do with the engine firing or not."

It does if theres water in it. It's not the coil or it wouldn't start in the first place. Carb adjustments are usually starting cold issues. I'm going by most common problems. Most people don't have a good idea of what ethanol fuel does to a small air cooled engine until they blow their engine. I see an 8 ft pile of them every time I get my chain saw serviced to remind me.

Runs fine until it gets warm or hot then cuts off then cools and will recrank

Does it crank over when the engine is hot. If it does sounds like your maybe loosing fuel if so check fuel pressure if t is good check for spark could be a bad crank sensor or bad distributor.

Husqvarna 455 rancher shuts off after it gets hot

The tank vent has been an issue, it can not only vacume the tank it can pressurise the tank and cause flooding, the breather is under the starter cover on the top right hand of the tank, i have replaced the original breather to the early 357xp breather, this is like a small white pellet of vion ( a breathable plastic )

Saw won't start without starting fluid.

Sounds like you have a compression problem. Starting fluid will fire at a much lower compression than a gas/oil mix so that's why it will start with it. When the motor is running you get a little more compression because the piston is coming up so fast. You should check the condition of your cylinder wall and piston & ring. If they are damaged at all you loose compression which directly affects starting and running power.

Eager ****** McCulloch Chainsaw; Won't start when hot...

Loosen the fuel cap just before you shut it down. Close it just prior to restart. If that corrects it, there is a fuel vent problem. HTH

My mower starts and runs great when cold but dies when hot. It will restart but won't stay running until it cools off again.

How old is your mower ? Sounds like points and condensor if older model ,or ignition module if its newer , points tend to stick together when they get old causing no spark at plug when they cool they come appart allowing it to spark again , module is sort of the same except you have no way of replacing points you have to replace module .
