My 1990 pathfinder idles fine but as soon as you give it gas it starts to die , any ideas?

You only give it air when pushing the gas pedal. Clean the throttle body and idle air control motor.

i had this problem.got a tune up.which was new distributer,wires,plugs,fuel filter also had a bad feul injector.i think that was all.cost about 400.00

there is a very common issue with bad distributors in nissan pathfinders,xterras.and quest. just replace the distributor

TPS - throttle position sensor .

Sounds like low fuel pressure.Crimp the fuel return line see if it improves if it does a fuel filter and pump will be needed

SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES AND DISTRIBUTOR CAP WET. WIPE DRY OFF THE DISTRIBUTOR. AND START ENGINE LET IT IDLE AND HEAT UP AND DRY OFF ENGINE SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

Coils and wires are the most likely culprits as they never get replaced hardly ever. You cant really test a coil, you can check for resistance on the plug wires but that doesnt tell you if the insulation is bad on them.

Get an OBD reading, it may be a worn belt or poor alternator.

There could be several concerns.
The fuel pump is weak and cutting out.
The ignition coils are getting hot and cutting off. The torque convetor in the transmission could be staying in lock up mode, This will cause the vehicle to die out , there is to much torque on the engine when at idle, causing the engine to die out.
The exhaust system could be clogged.
I would try and get the vehicle to a mechanic or dealer to check out .

it sounds like a timing issue
