There is a single screw on the bottom of the laptop hidden by a little rubber cover. pry out the rubber cover and unscrew one small philips head screw, then the unit slides out and you can buy a new one to replace it.

Burnt dvds read as blank. Sometimes work, but usually don't. can go either way with the same dvd at different times. It can and has happened with purchased cd and dvd. Though less likely.

Your Dvd drive is bad, it is not getting the data to burn, the laser that does the writing isn't writing the data to the disc. and option B is also depending on what program you are using to burn the dvd's and cd and following the correct steps. If all is good and you followed the right steps to it, then you need to replace your dvd/cd drive,

The drive mechanism is going bad and needs a replacement. Rather than going through the cost of replacement, I suggest you go to Walmart Electronics section and get an Exterior USB DVD drive for about $20-30 dollars. Any easy fix.

I need to replace the dvd/rw in my GT5026E but cant find the original. What will replace it

Any 5 1/4 DVD / CD drive will work. You may have to order drive rails depending on the setup of Gateways tower. You should have 2 - 5.25" Drive Bays available. The original model number and name for the DVD drive is 5648 DVD Burner Combo Drive .

The tower does have internal SATA so you can replace it with any internal SATA DVD rom you like, it doesnt have to be Gateway, and it can even be blu-ray.

Hope this helps

Gateway p-6301 laptop, I need to replace the dvd drive, how do i go about doing it?

If the drive slides into a cavity in the laptop as most all do then this should apply. If you have the replacement drive, look at it and find a tab at it's rear with a threaded hole for a retaining screw. Locate the screw in the bottom of the laptop that corresponds with that location. Remove the screw. There should also be a small slide latch in that same area. Slide the latch to release,as you apply a pull on the finger grip on the bottom of the drive. The drive should let go with very little effort. Do not force, if it doesn't give easily, look closely for a second screw.
