Oooops.
Contact Dell and see how much it will cost to repair. Might be cheaper to buy new all-in-one!!

My workcentre PE 220 scanner locked . How can I scanner unlocked? Because there is no button in scanner???

Rick Kasper's solution is a good start. There is no mechanical lock for the scanner head (below the glass plate upon which the material to be copied may be placed).
The "scanner" in this context is the optical head that slides along a rail below the glass plate. Its movement from the home position is monitored by a photo transistor. If the scanner head fails to release from its park position under the left hand window as it should, including during the power-up sequence, the failure message will appear.
If you hear a fairly loud whining sound (from the stalled scanner head drive motor) during the power-up sequence followed by the "scanner locked" warning, it indicates that the scanner head is hung up mechanically in its park position below the left hand scanner glass. Verify this by opening the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) before powering up and note lack of movement of the scanner head assembly. Following the sequence outlined in the service manual, remove the scanner + ADF assembly, open the scanner assembly and move the scanner head on its rail to free it up. Take care to reassemble the scanner head with the white nylon slides properly placed on either side of the head.
If however, during the power up sequence you do not hear the whining noise, it is a sure indication that the motor has either failed or that no drive power is applied, but this is rare compared to mechanical hang-up.

Not moving < Agfa Duoscan T1200 Flatbed

Try this ;

Re-seat the batch of documents gently into the document feeder Confirm the automatic document feeder is closed
Connect the interface cable correctly
When the scanner is the last or only device on the SCSI bus, set the terminator switch to ON; otherwise set it to off

Hope that helps if not have the scanner replace.....

Scanner Tips 2 " Don'ts "

Never apply solution directly on the scanner glass. If you find that the glass is dirty or has a slight dust or smoke film underneath and on the inside, do not unscrew the lid and try to clean it from inside. It's always advisable to call an authorized service center.
Never use abrasives, isopropyl alcohol, benzene, acetone etc on the scanner glass, as this will streak and cloud the glass, and can Even cause damage.
Never place your scanner near heating vents or windows, or other locations where moisture might affect its functioning. Also remember: If you are moving the scanner from one place to another, make sure that the transportation lock is enabled, as this prevents the CCD array mechanism from moving. Push down the lock, which is located at the back of the scanner. Remember to unlock the scanner before you attempt to operate it, or you may end up damaging it.

Scanner won't scan. the light is on but the scanner part won't move. makes a lot of noise. the belt is not brokern

depending on the scanner the belt may not be broken, however the gear that it rides on may not be moving, or the belt is slipping. Some scanners the glass can be removed for you to visially see the gear and evaluate from there

Have a champion gun safe. Moved it to a new location. Now it won't open. Any ideas?

If your model safe has the glass relocker and you didn't re-pin the relocker when you moved it, you might have broken the glass relocker during the move. That would keep it from opening.

We have this machine at our church purchased a three yr. warrant with it and it expired 5 mths. ago, but during the warm up it begins to make sort of a grinding noise, then display says scanner error #...

Scanner error 5 indicates that the scanner head is not moving. This is most often caused by a bad scanner motor. If you open the ADF top, you should see the main scanner glass and then a small piece of glass. This smaller glass is held in place by one screw and a plastic retainer. Remove the screw and retainer, pop the glass out and smell the inside of the scanner. If you smell burned elecrical then that motor has definitely failed and you either have to try and find another scanner or find a donor motor. (the HP 3380, 3330 and M2727 all use the same motor).

I am repeatedly getting error code 5010 once I scan any document.

Ok it can be either 2 things: The FIRST is if you have not UNLOCKED the scanner lock switch. The scanner lock switch is a switch that keeps the scanner assembly frozen in place so that when you move your scanner from room to room or apartment to house, the scanner wont freely move around the unit causing it to be dammaged.

To unlock the Scanner lock switch just lift your document cover and look for the swtch on the LEFT hand side of the scanner's glass bed.

SECOND: IF the scanner lock swtich is set at UNLOCK, then your scanner assembly is broken and needs to be replaced. You must then send it to Cannon or any Mulitfunction printer repair place.

I hope this helps you :)

Plate glass broken

My concern is that if this unit took a hard enough bang to bust the glass, what else suffered?

Did you transport the printer yourself or did a moving company do the work? If you moved it, take it to a Canon authorized repair center and get an estimate. If a moving company transported the unit, contact them and place an insurance claim on the damage. By law, the moving companies are required to carry damage insurance.

Have you been using ink cartridges other than store bought? Reason I'm asking is that i used a refill kit, and tried those half price refill places, only to find ink was leaking out when not in use & clogged up the ends where the cartridge moves across. take a flashlight & look at the ends of the track that the cartridges slide across on, you may see a build up of ink, that won't allow the cartridge to travel as far as it needs to go to run properly.
