Motor of that type, no. Depending on the age of the machine, it might be time to replace it. These are sealed motors that aren't designed to be serviced, rather, designed to be replaced.

How do you oil/grease the motor?

You don't, this is an electric motor. Oil and lubricants can cause damage to the motor or even cause a fire. If you feel that you need to have the motor serviced take it to a professional electrician who has experience in servicing such motors.

Will not go down in temp after cleaning inside

I'm not familiar with that model, but in general, if the unit has an internal fan (evaporator fan), it could be stuck or not working. This will not allow proper heat transfer to cool the unit and the box will hang at a certain temp which is not cold enough. Sometimes when a unit is turned off the moisture inside the box can cause rust to form on the fan motor. It could be as simple as accessing the fan, if there is one, turning it manually, and adding a small amount of oil.

Repair motor arm or make my own

I run mine in an unoccupied room with an old hardcover book and a quart soup can on top. Just a noisy beast but great ice creame when you figure out how to use it. Parts can be found here: http://www.cuisinart.com/parts/ice_cream/ice-50bc.html

Hi, I hav bought an ICE-50BC ice cream maker. It is now 3 weeks old & has been used 3 times. When the ice cream begins to freeze the stirrer arm always lifts off the machine & stops working. when I...

See the BOLD section below..

You need a good simple recipe. So here is one.
(This is an unpasteurized recipe unless you boil the blended strawberries, wash the berries very well if you don't)

1 lb fresh strawberries (ripe is better)
3/4 cup sugar (most folks double this but i prefer the taste of strawberry)
3/4 cup whipping creme
2 1/4 cups milk (2%)
1 tsp lemon juice

Liquefy the strawberries in your blender. (Boil now if pasteurizing) and add the rest of the ingredients and blend.
You now have enough Ice cream mix for two partial batches. Divide mix in two equal portions. You should have enough to fill machines bucket 1/2 - 2/3 full.
IMPORTANT
Do NOT have more or less in the bucket as the machine screws up with more or less of any mix.
Insert Paddle and put noisy grey power arm on top.
Add a 2 inch thick hardcover novel on top of arm above bucket.
Add a heavy Soup can on top of this book (I recommend Habitant French Canadian Pea Soup 28 fl oz size).

Set timer to 40 minutes.
Leave room as it is a noisy little beast machine.

Come back and check just before it is done. If still too liquid add 5 minutes to timer.

Empty into bowl and add 2nd half of mix to bucket.
Clean the dimple on bottom of mixer paddle before putting back in bucket. This batch should take 5 minutes less as compressor is already cold.

Have fun.

The book and Soup can are essential to keep the silly beasts power arm from lifting up too early.

We just bought a new Rival ice cream maker and the motor does not spin at all when we plug it in. Any solutions?

Sometimes just taking it apart and oiling it or putting lithium grease on it will help. I deal in used small appliances, and am able to resuscitate many ice cream maker motors this way. If that doesn't do the trick, you can check here for parts: http://stores.ebay.com/Lauras-Last-Ditch/Ice-Cream-Donut-Cookie-Makers-/_i.html?_fsub=360482219&_sid=93311479&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322

Gearboxes definitely go bad. The first sign is usually noise, I would describe it as a rumbling. The best way to determine if it's the gear box is:
1. empty and disconnect machine from power.
2. remove the freezer door and beater assembly
2. remove the rear panel - 4 screws
3. Remove the belts on the noisy side
4. Spin the big pulley and listen for the noise, you may want to remove the belts on the quiet side to compare the two.
I have a video that was shot to help change the hex coupler, but you would follow all of the same steps to replace the gear box.

Ice-cream maker doesn't fit together

Do a 1/2 to 2/3 batch. Put a book and a soup can on top of the mixing arm to keep it down.

The machine does make wonderful Ice cream, however it is noisy and fiddly. Do not try the full batch as it just doesn't work. I find doing 2 half size batches works best. Also find a spare room to run the noisy beast in.

Blade stops turning but motor still running

Hi Lew 2!

Sounds like the belt might be slipping prematurely. I'd try cleaning the belt and all the pulleys with an alcohol based solvent or rubbing alcohol (clear) to remove any excess oils that might cause slippage and see if that helps Is there any type of belt tension adjustment? If so, also try tightening the belt.. If the problem persists, you probably need to replace the belt.

If this helps, after the churning stops, remove the paddles and cover the top with plastic wrap or wax paper and allow the mixture to "firm up" in the ice bucket nother 10-15 mnutes, and then enjoy a great old-fashioned treat!

Hope this is a help, let us know how it goes, and good luck!
