Is the southbridge chip supposed to have a heatsink on it? Sounds like it's damaged.

Try hardware monitor on your CMOS setup, check for any unusual settings, This may help, did you load the cool n quiet software that comes with the motherboard CD.

Welcome to the world of Windows 7. Don't you miss Windows XP? LOL, Windows 7 is a nightmare just like Vista.

Anyway I think it's your Memory. You mentioned moving the memory chips around, but you didn't mention trying one at a time. I think one of them is bad.

Memory ChipRemove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.Try just working with one of them in Slot 1 and swap them out in just Slot 1.

Oh, I just thought of something else, Maybe you have bad Capacitors on the motherboard. Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Case. Take a flash light and look inside the computer at the capacitors. They look like little Battery Towers. If any of them are spewing corrosion out of them, they can cause the computer to go crazy just like yours is doing.

My computer was accidentally unpluged while running some programs,..I heard a (pop) and now it won't boot up. It hangs up w/ the "Windows" logo on screen. It won't get past that point. What now ?

This is a sign of a corrupt boot sector, or information was lost while it was loaded into RAM, you may need to format and reinstall Windows. Try and restore it with your windows repair disk. Speak to a friend or PC tech to help you through the process in real time.
Please take the time to rate my expertise.
Thanks

PC BOOTS HALF WAY

Try booting into safe mode. If it's a driver problem, safe mode will allow you to start Windows with only the bare minimum of hardware and drivers being engaged. To get to safe mode, press the F8 button on your keyboard during the Windows boot process until it takes you to a screen to let you select Normal, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking, etc. I would suggest not using anything other than just Safe Mode. From there, uninstall any software or new drivers that you recently installed. Alternatively, you can use the System Restore feature to rollback to a previous restore point.

You can try also to do reformat your hard drive as fresh unallocated one before doing formatting again to install windows. And check your installation disk for scratches.
