Large monitor has distorted display

I love my large monitor but the display is "stretched"...I didn't get it to have large icons and letters, I got it to display more area of a spreadsheet then the smaller monitor. Is there a way to have everything display a normal size?

Try adjusting your system resolution to a largest one (as 1280 x 800), or using a DVI cable, if your monitor and video card supports it.

Wide screen monitor distortion
Depending upon the screen resolution that has been set in Display, the image will be distorted on these large wide screen monitors.
To correct this distortion.
1. Create a large circle image using a draw program such as Paint (hold down the Shift key as you create the circle as it will draw a perfect circle).
2. Open Control Panel - Display - Settings tab and adjust the Screen resolution slider, increase or decrease the screen resolution then bring the circle image to the front and check the image, if the circle is still distorted then change the screen resolution and check the circle again until you are satisfied with the image of the circle.
3. When you are satisfied then click apply.

Hello Dean,

It seems your windows resolution settings are set wrong, you simply need to adjust the resolution to match the monitor. To do this, open your start menu, select Control panel. When the control panel is open check the top left corner to see if it is in Classic or Category view, if it says Category, click the switch to classic mode link. If you don't see this in the top left look at the top right and look for Category or Large Icon View, if Category is selected select Large Icon by clicking on Category and then clicking Large Icon View in the list that appears.

Once in the proper view, click on Display and depending which version of windows you have select Settings on the top of the properties window(XP or older) or Adjust Resolution from the left column(Vista/7), now find the slider bar for resolution and slide it to 1280x1024. This will set the number of pixels on the screen.

The default and best resolution for this monitor is 1280x1024, if that makes the fonts/icons too small try 1024x768 next and 800x600 last. If the resolution is set too low to see the Ok and Apply buttons simply set the slider bar then press the enter button the first time, then you will be able to see the Ok and Apply if you need to continue adjusting.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Reply back with your version of windows if you require more specific instructions or pictures of any of the steps.

So I hooked this moniter up to my hp and all I get is two blinking lights

One monitor serves as the primary monitor, and this monitor displays the Logon dialog box when you start your computer. In addition, most programs will display windows on the primary monitor when you initially open them. You can select different screen resolutions and different color quality settings for each monitor. Multiple monitors can be connected to individual video adapters or to a single video adapter that supports multiple outputs. To configure the arrangement of multiple monitors:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.
  3. On the Settings tab, click Identify to display a large number on each of your monitors. This shows which monitor corresponds with each icon.
  4. Click the monitor icons and drag them to positions that represent how you want to move items from one monitor to another, and then click OK or Apply to view changes.
NOTE: The icon positions determine how you move items from one monitor to another. For example, if you are using two monitors and you want to move items from one monitor to the other by dragging left and right, place the icons side by side. To move items between monitors by dragging up and down, place the icons one above the other. The icon positions do not have to correspond to the physical positions of the monitors. You can place the icons one above the other even though your monitors are side by side.
Change Primary Monitor
  1. On the Settings tab of the Display Properties dialog box, click the monitor icon that represents the monitor you want to designate as the primary monitor.
  2. Click to select the Use this device as the primary monitor check box. Note that this check box is unavailable when you select the monitor icon that is currently set as your primary monitor.
View Same Desktop in Multiple Monitors
  1. On the Settings tab of the Display Properties dialog box, click the monitor icon that represents the monitor you want to use in addition to your primary monitor.
  2. Click to select the Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor check box. After you enable this feature, you can drag items across your screen onto alternate monitors. Or, you can resize a window to stretch it across more than one monitor.
Move Items Between Monitors
  1. On the Settings tab of the Display Properties dialog box, click Identify to display a large number on each of your monitors. This shows which monitor corresponds with each icon.
  2. Click the monitor icons and drag them to positions that represent how you want to move items from one monitor to another, and then click OK or Apply.
  3. Drag an item on your desktop across your screen until it appears on the alternate monitor. Or, you can resize a window to stretch it across more than one monitor.
Using DualviewOn many portable computers and some desktop computers (those with two video ports on one video card), you can expand your display to a second monitor by using Dualview. Dualview is very similar to the multiple monitor feature, with the exception that you cannot select the primary display. On a portable computer, the primary monitor is always the LCD display screen. On a desktop computer, it is the monitor that is attached to the first video out port. Once you attach the second monitor and turn on your computer, use the Display tool in Control Panel to configure your settings, just as you do with multiple monitors. You can use Dualview with docked or undocked portable computers.

The positioning of my desktop's imageis still distorted despite running the easy tune display wizard and my using the auto tune keys on the side of the monitor.

Use the manual methods on your monitor (horizontal and vertical size and position), not the auto tune and see if you can get it to improve.

Try using a different desktop picture as well.

Right click on the desktop where there are no icons, and change the picture. Also, play with Stretch/Center/Tile - stretch will distort a file if it doesn't exactly match your screen settings.
